Just one month after its official establishment under the Local Government reform, the new East Pafos Municipality puts before the state authorities the decision of the new Municipal Council to rename it to Ierokipia Municipality.
The decision emphasizes that based on Article 8 of the Municipalities Law, the Municipal Council of East Pafos Municipality in a special session, held on August 1st, took the decision to change the name of the Municipality.
In order to highlight the local identity of the area, the Municipality is renamed to the Municipality of Ierokipia, it is noted in the decision, which will be notified to the Minister of Interior and, subsequently, the Council of Ministers by decree that will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, will change the name of the Municipality.
The change of the name of the Municipality is the first step towards highlighting the strongest cultural capital of the region, the legacy of Kyprida Aphrodite and her Sacred Gardens, it is pointed out in the decision of the Municipal Council of the new Municipality consisting of the old Municipality of Geroskipou and the communities of Konia, Agia Marinouda, Acheleia and Timi.
It is expected that the new name will highlight the local comparative advantage of the area, will give momentum to every claim or pursuit of the new Municipality and will facilitate the implementation of its goals.
