BASES POLICE WARN BIRD TRAPPERS

 Filenews 7 August 2024

The Police of the British Bases appears ready to deal with bird trappers, warning with severe penalties, in view of the migratory season of ampelous birds.

A BB statement said the Community Action Task Force (CAT) was on the ground in the eastern areas of the SBAs identifying potential trapping sites and disrupting infrastructure created by those seeking to profit from this illegal activity.

It added that the team had already identified numerous sites prepared by attackers who wanted to trap migratory birds in nets and deadly limesticks.

Police officers also attach great importance to working closely with communities and have distributed information leaflets to community leaders and hunting groups, which have supported police efforts over the years.

In June, two men were fined €1,350 each for bird trapping, and in recent weeks police have confirmed that three vehicles with a total value of more than €35,000 were seized as they are believed to have been used for trapping.
