A yellow warning for high temperatures has been issued by the Met Office for today.
According to the announcement, the maximum temperature in parts of the country is expected to rise to 40 degrees in the interior.
The warning, which came into effect last night, will continue until 17:00.
A low pressure system continues to affect Cyprus and dry conditions will be bringing a return to the heatwave early to mid next week, with humidity adding to the degree of discomfort, so vulnerable groups should protect themselves and stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Fine and hot tomorrow, turning increasingly overcast in the afternoon, mostly over the mountains. Winds will be light variable, force three, gradually turning southwesterly to northwesterly, moderate force three to four and in southern coastal regions in the afternoon, strong force five, over slight seas.
Temperatures will rise to 40 degrees Celsius inland, 33 in western coastal regions, 35 in the rest of the coastal areas and 32 over the mountains.
Mainly Wednesday and Thursday will possibly see isolated showers, mostly in mountainous regions, with the Met Service forecast also indicating a storm.The 40 mark will be maintained through to Wednesday, above the seasonal average.
