RESIDENTS IN LAGIA COVER THEIR BASIC NEEDS WITH BUCKETS - 'IT IS A SHAME FOR 8 DAYS THAT THERE IS NO WATER'

Filenews 26 July 2024 - by Natasha Christoforou

Some residents in Lagia are in despair, since despite assurances that the damage that had left them without water for a week has been repaired, for the eighth day their tanks remain empty. Residents contacted by philenews expressed their indignation, saying that "one of their human rights" had been violated for days.

They noted that they are forced, in the midst of very high temperatures, to bathe with buckets, while they cannot meet their basic needs. The anger of the residents who contacted us is caused by the fact that they made many efforts to find out what is happening, however, one service refers them to the other and they were not notified when they will have water in their homes.

The strange thing, as the protesting residents said, is that in some houses the water supply has been restored and in some not.

The indignation of both him and the deputy mayor of Lagia was expressed through our website by the mayor of Lefkara, Sophocles Sophocleous. "We express our strong protest. I feel the need to add, after the communication I had yesterday with the District Administration Organization, that in the times we live in, it is a shame that a community does not have water for 8 days.

Our website was informed by the Larnaca District Administration Organization that repeated damages were caused, which, according to them, have been repaired with the contribution of the Water Development Department (WDD). The information we had from the Water Development Department is that they contributed to the repair and that the EDAs are now responsible for the management of the water supply networks.
