The municipality of Akamas, a continuation of the municipality of Pegeia, participates in the European program Interreg Euro MED. The municipality aims to create a solar park that will reduce the environmental footprint and the financial cost for the local authority.
According to Mayor Marinos Lambrou, six countries are participating in the program and this concerns renewable energy sources. The Municipality of Pegeia, now Akamas, has received approval after submitting a relevant proposal for the creation of a solar park.
The local authority has secured after the approval of its proposal the amount of about half a million euros for the creation of a solar park in the area of the Municipal Stadium of Pegeia. The timeline for completion of the solar park is 33 months. The local authority, Marinos Lambrou concluded, has several plans to use other European funds.
