NEAR 40 TODAY, RISING FURTHER TOMORROW - SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS NEXT WEEK

 in-cyprus 7 July 2024 - by Constantinos Tsindas

A seasonal low pressure system is affecting the Eastern Mediterranean, maintaining high temperatures that will be going up again over the next couple of days, before stabilising at around the 40 mark, accompanied by isolated showers mostly over the mountains.

It was 30 degrees at eight this morning and this will steadily rise until midday when the UV will be very high, so everyone out and about should take all the necessary precautions, taking in lots of water and keeping out of direct sunlight.

There is currently no heat warning in place.

Clear skies today almost throughout, turning slightly overcast on the mountains in the afternoon. Winds will initially be light to moderate northwesterly to northeasterly and in coastal regions, southeasterly to southwesterly, force three to four, later southwesterly to northwesterly, strong force four to five, over slight seas.

Temperatures will rise to 39 degrees Celsius inland, 36 on the eastern, southeastern and northern coastal regions, 33 in the rest of the coastal areas and 30 over the mountains.

Clear skies this evening too, with low cloud at intervals. Winds will mainly be westerly to northwesterly, light to moderate force three to four, later turning light variable force three in certain areas, over slight seas.

Temperatures will drop around 25 degrees Celsius inland, the eastern, southeastern and northern coastal regions, 24 in the rest of the coastal areas and 20 on the mountains.

Clear skies tomorrow, turning partly overcast in the afternoon while Tuesday and Wednesday will see the possibility of isolated showers and a storm, mainly on the mountains.

Temperatures will rise further tomorrow to a touch of 40, which the Meteorological Service predicts will stabilise and persist through to Wednesday, over the seasonal average.
