The 48-year-old Bulgarian man was indicted yesterday before the Pafos Permanent Assize Court, accused of killing his wife in June in an apartment complex in Tremithousa.

The start of the hearing at the Pafos Assize Court was set for the first of August 2024 and until then he remains in custody.

The 48-year-old Bulgarian man and his compatriot who was murdered were parents of two minor children who were taken over by officers of the provincial welfare office.

Five mobile phones and small quantities of narcotics were found yesterday in the Central Prison, the Police say.

In statements to CNA and in response to a question about today's police operation in the Central Prisons, the Police spokesman, Christos Andreou, said that within the framework of the cooperation with the Department of Prisons, they proceeded today with an operation in two wings of the Central Prison in specific cells where convicts/undertrials reside.

"Investigations of a similar nature have been carried out in the past and obviously there will be and others will follow in the future provided that there is information in relation to objects that are forbidden to be held in cells of the Central Prison. The searches have identified 5 mobile phones, which have been received, as well as a small amount of drugs that has also been received," he added.

Asked about the placement of a bomb in the vehicle of a Central Prison Officer, Mr. Andreou said that regarding the placement of an explosive device in a specific vehicle, the case is being investigated.

Finally, he noted that the investigation is in full swing in order to reveal the motives for the placement of this explosive device, but also to identify the perpetrators.

At the Athalassa Hospital the suspect for the murder of Stelios Stylianos from Pegeia with a mandatory hospitalization order – He was examined by a Government Psychiatrist

Development in the murder case of 44-year-old Stelios Stylianou in Pegeia.

According to information from Pafos Press, the 50-year-old suspect for the murder of his brother-in-law, Stelios Stylianos, aged 44, was referred to the Mental Health Hospital in Athalassa as he was judged to be in need of compulsory hospitalization, as a result of which a relevant decree was issued.

It should be noted that the suspect is under 8-day detention while the members of the Paphos Police Department, as part of the investigative work, are expected to receive 35 statements from his family and friends. According to the Police, the 50-year-old has confessed to the murder.

Let us remind you that according to all the data under consideration, around 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, information was received at the Police about shots fired at a house in Peyia. Members of the Force immediately went to the area, where they found the 43-year-old dead inside the house.  

It is noted that the death of the 44-year-old is due, according to the medical examiner Nikolas Charalambous, is due to internal bleeding - crushing of vital organs caused by a firearm.

The Police arrested a 54-year-old man yesterday evening, to facilitate the investigations regarding an investigated case of conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering from illegal activities. The above offenses appear to have been committed between April and June 2024.

The investigation of the case began after complaints from citizens, to the Provincial Crime Investigation Departments of Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and Paphos, that they fell victim to a "pyramid" type of fraud. According to the complainants, an online investment platform in which they had registered and invested money went down and they could not withdraw the money they had invested.

From the Police examinations, testimony was obtained against the 54-year-old, on the basis of which a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him. The 54-year-old was spotted last night, arrested on a warrant and taken into custody to facilitate inquiries.  

The Financial Crimes Investigation Office of the TAE Limassol continues the examinations.

A detention order for a period of eight days was ordered by the judge of the Limassol District Court, Theodoros Symeonides, against the 54-year-old suspect who was arrested in connection with the metamax pyramid fraud case.

The victims appear to be persons from Cyprus, Greece and abroad and amounted to about 15,000. According to what was heard by the examiner of the case and head of the Financial Crimes Investigation Office of the Limassol Police Authority, Panagiotis Mouridis, on July 1, 2024, messages were received at the ICF Limassol from persons who complained that they had an account on the Metamax platform and were not allowed access.

Specifically, investors put money into accounts and received cryptocurrencies that they invested and multiplied by watching and evaluating videos daily. The investigator referred to 4 complaints from citizens from Limassol about the money they invested in the metamax platform. They said the suspect posed as a leader and via video informed and invited citizens to invest.

The examiner of the case also said that in their statements the complainants said an implementation group had been formed with 9,000 members of Cypriots and Greeks, where the 54-year-old suspect claimed via video that he is the leader of this pyramid and the first to register in Cyprus. After the accounts were closed, members increased and informed that their accounts had been closed.

In the complaints received from the complainants, the suspect told his victims that they received €30,000 monthly earnings while having a large team.

All the complaints that would be made to the police authorities are against the 54-year-old.

The 54-year-old suspect and former police officer was arrested yesterday and taken into custody. Under questioning, he claimed that he and members of his family received threatening messages from various people associated with the pyramid, expressing fears for their lives. The suspect does not admit involvement in the case and rejects leadership

So far, 11 complaints have been made nationwide in relation to the pyramid fraud under investigation. A further 100 statements are expected to be received and will be made with the assistance of Interpol.

The lawyer said before the Limassol District Court that his client pleads not guilty and is a victim of this case. He was targeted and photographed by some media as the mastermind of the case. He also noted that it has nothing to do since the company is based in Canada and the Philippines.

The Court granted the request to detain the suspect for a period of eight days.

The 54-year-old is being investigated for offences involving conspiracy to commit a felony, extortion of money by false representation and money laundering.

The above offences appear to have been committed between April and June 2024. The investigation of the case began after citizens reported to the Limassol, Larnaka, Nicosia and Paphos District Crime Detection Departments that they were victims of pyramid fraud.

A quantity of cannabis and cocaine, as well as a number of ecstasy pills, were found in the possession of a 32-year-old man, and seized last night in Famagusta district. As a result, the 32-year-old was arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

Specifically, around 11.30 p.m. yesterday, on a street in the Famagusta district, members of the YKAN and the Famagusta OPE, stopped the 32-year-old for inspection.

Following a search, a packet of cigarettes containing seven packages of cannabis with a total gross weight of seven grams, a plastic container containing ten packages of cocaine with a total gross weight of approximately ten grams and a plastic container containing eight ecstasy pills were found and seized.

The 32-year-old was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of drugs with intent to supply to another person and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

Eight new arrests were made last night by the Police, regarding the incidents of June 27, in Limassol, which resulted in the injury of two persons and damage to cars. With the new arrests, the total number of arrests in the case rose to 21. The new arrests were made yesterday afternoon. They are eight men, aged between 22 and 48, against whom judicial arrest warrants were pending and wanted by the Police, to facilitate investigations. In an effort to locate them, the Police had published their photographs and personal details on 3 July 2024. After their arrest, further publication of their details is unnecessary. The incidents took place around 9:00 p.m. on June 27, 2024, in Limassol, when, according to the evidence under review, a number of people got into a fight with each other. Members of the Police went to the scene, however, upon the arrival of the police, the above persons fled. As a result of the incidents, two persons were slightly injured, while a number of cars were damaged. TAE Limassol continues the exams.
