CORONAVIRUS - DR KARAGIANNIS COMMENTS ON RISE IN CASES

 Filenews 14 July 2024

Asked about the increase in coronavirus cases observed in the community, Dr. Karagiannis said that "this is due to a new variant of the coronavirus", further explaining that it is a subvariant of "Omicron".

He underlined that this is not a more aggressive variant and therefore things remain as they are.

Asked if there may be an increase in coronavirus cases from autumn, Karagiannis noted that "there may be an increase in cases for obvious reasons, but not particular". He said there could be an outbreak if a new strain of coronavirus emerges, which he said happens every six to eight months.

He pointed out that mainly those who should be careful are the over-65s and the elderly with underlying diseases. They know that they should use the mask when they are in crowded areas and enclosed spaces, especially now in the summer when the air conditioners are on. Hand sanitization should also be done," he said.
