TEMPERATURE IN THE INTERIOR 44 DEGREES TODAY, AND RED ALERT FOR FOREST FIRES

Cyprus will also be a furnace today with temperatures in the interior and mountains climbing to 44 degrees and 34 respectively, while the risk of forest fires is at "Red Alert" level.

As the Department of Meteorology said in its announcement yesterday, today, June 6, between the hours of 11:00-17:00 an orange warning will be in force, as the maximum temperature is expected to rise around 44 degrees in the interior and around 34 degrees in the higher mountains.

In an announcement for Thursday, the Department of Forests states that the "Red Alert" remains regarding the risk of forest fire and points out that lighting a fire without permission is prohibited and that it is an offense which, according to the Forest Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50.000,00 or both penalties together and according to the Prevention of Fires in the Countryside Law of 1988 up to 5 years or with a fine of up to €20,000 or both penalties. It is reminded that lighting a fire for food preparation is allowed only in the barbecues of picnic areas.

It also calls on the public to be particularly careful during their excursions, completely avoiding actions and activities that may cause fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that generate heat, sparks or flame, such as emery, welding and welding.

In case someone notices smoke or fire, they are asked to call immediately 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Service).
