Next Friday at 10:45 a.m. schools will be closed due to the high temperatures expected. This is a decision of the Ministry of Education, which has responded to a request from teachers, but also from some parents who expressed strong concerns about the risks of exposing children to such conditions.
The decision has been taken in consultation with the Ministry of Health, the Meteorological Service, teachers and organized parents and concerns kindergartens and primary schools.
It is clarified that parents who do not wish to take their children to schools on Fridays can do so and students will not be charged for absence.
The announcement of the Ministry of Education is as follows:
Based on the recommendations of the Meteorological Service and the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth announces that, next Friday 14/06/2024, a day on which particularly high temperatures are predicted, classes in all Primary Education school units (Primary Schools, Kindergartens, Special Schools) will be suspended at 10:45 a.m. Parents/guardians are requested to ensure the safe collection of their children.
It is emphasized that parents/guardians who wish to leave their children at home on that day can do so. Children's absences will be considered excused.
The Optional All-Day Schools will not operate on this day.
