MAJOR ROAD WORKS
On the Limassol-Nicosia highway, in both directions, in the section from the Moni junction to the New Hospital junction, in the period 27/5/2024 – 28/6/2024, from 9:00 in the evening until 06:00 in the morning of the following day, every day, except for Fridays and weekends, work will be carried out to replace safety parapets. During the works, it will be partially closed for a length of 200m. one lane of the highway and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane. Also on the Limassol-Nicosias highway, from Monday, 27/5/2024 and for a period of approximately 2 months, every day except weekends and holidays, between the hours of 07:00 – 15:00, parapet replacement works will be carried out on the abutments of the highway and in both directions. During the works, the highway embankment will be partially closed, in a length of 200m. approximately and traffic will continue uninterrupted.
On the Limassol-Paphos highway and the Limassol bypass road, maintenance work will be carried out on the trees and bushes of the central island, by the Forestry Department, as follows: (a) In the period 29/5/2024 – 9/7/2024, between the hours 07:00 – 15:30, in the section from the exit to Kourris Dam to Petra tou Romiou, (b) On Sunday 2/6/2024, between the hours of 06:00 – 13:00, in the section from the uneven roundabout of Germasogeia to the uneven roundabout of Agios Athanasios, and (c) On weekends, 8 – 9/6/2024 and 15 – 16/6/2024, between the hours of 06:00 – 13:00, on the section of the Paphos – Limassol highway, from the exit to Agios Sylas to the uneven surface New Port roundabout. During the works, the right traffic lane will be partially closed in both directions for a length of 1500m. and traffic will be diverted to the left lane. Also on the Limassol-Paphos highway, in the section from Erimi to the Bridge over Petra tou Romiou, in the period 28/5/2024 – 15/12/2024, excluding Fridays, weekends and holidays, between the hours of 07:00 – 15:00: 30, plantation watering works will be carried out within the central island, by the Forestry Department. During the works, the right traffic lane in one direction of the road will be partially closed for a length of 200m. and traffic will be diverted to the left lane. Also, on the Paphos-Limassol highway, from Thursday 30/5/2024 until Thursday 4/6/2024, excluding weekends, from 07:00 to 15:00, work will be carried out to replace damaged parapets on the highway footings and in both directions. During the works, the highway embankment will be partially closed, in a length of 200m. approximately and traffic will continue uninterrupted. On the Nicosia-Limassol and Nicosia-Larnaka highways, in the period 3/6/2024 – 6/6/2024, between the hours of 06:00 – 18:00, cleaning work will be carried out within the central island (cutting, uprooting, grass collection and other waste), at the following points: (a) On the Nicosia – Limassol highway, from the Pera Chorio Nisos exit to the Larnaca exit, and (b) On the Nicosia – Larnaca highway, from Pera Chorio Nisos and for a distance of 2 km. During the works, the motorway will remain open to traffic as the work will take place within the central island. The collection and removal of waste will take place during the same period, between the hours of 21:00 in the evening and 02:00 in the morning of the following day, where the right lane of traffic will be closed and the traffic will be channelled to the adjacent traffic lanes. At the entrance of Nicosia, from the roundabout of the Limassol-Nicosia highway by the traffic lights, up to the light-controlled junction of Limassol and Athalassa avenues, from Sunday 2/6/2024 to Wednesday 5/6/2024, between the hours From 21:00 in the evening to 05:00 in the morning of the following day, horizontal road marking works will be carried out. During the works, one lane will be locally closed for approximately 100 meters and traffic will be diverted to the other lane. In Strovolos, from Saturday, 01/6/2024 until Saturday 15/6/2024, maintenance work will be carried out on the greenery of the central islands, in parts of the streets below, by the Municipality of Strovolos: • Strovolou Avenue from the junction with Archbishop Kyprianou Avenue to Agios Stylianos Street (1-2 & 8-9 June 2024 – weekend between the hours 07:00 – 16:00), • Independence Avenue (3-4 June 2024 between 09:00-17:00), • 25th March Avenue (June 5, 2024 between the hours of 09:00-17:00), • Vikela and Giannou Kranidiotis avenues (June 6-7, 2024 between the hours of 09:30-17:00), • Archangelou Avenue from the junction with Andi Chatzikosti Avenue to Agios Alexiou Street (June 10-12, 2024 – between the hours of 09:30-12:45), • Lefkotheou Street from the junction with Archangelou Avenue to Agia Annas Street (June 12, 2024 between the hours of 09:00-12:00), • Roundabout and islands at the junction with Tseriou Avenue and Spyros Kyprianou Avenue without affecting traffic (June 13, 2024 between the hours of 09:00-12:00), • Andi Chatzikosti Avenue (June 14, 2024 between the hours of 09:30-14:00), • Spyros Kyprianou Avenue from the junction with Strovolos Avenue to Tseriou Avenue (June 15, 2024 – between the hours of 09:30-12:45)During the works, the tangential traffic lane of the central island will be partially closed for a length of 100-200m. approximately, each time and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane. In Lakatamia, works will be carried out on Tseriou Avenue and Strovolou Street, from Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue to Pefkou Street, from Friday 12/5/2023 and for a period of 20 months, as part of the improvement/construction of Ippokratous, Argyroupoleos, and Department Avenues of Tseriou Avenue and Strovolou Street. At the same time, during the same period, as part of the reconstruction of Hippocrates Avenue, Themistokleous Street and Areos Avenue will be closed from their junction with Themistokleous Street to Nikias Street and Kentaurou Street respectively. In the province of Larnaca, as part of the construction works of the "Improvement of the Ormidia - Xylofagos Road" Project, from August 28, 2023 until July 17, 2024, work will be carried out on Anexartisias Street. The road will be closed to traffic in both directions, from the junction with Menelaou Ludemi Street to the junction with the old Larnaca-Dekelia-Ammochosto road. During the works, traffic will be diverted to an existing parallel road (old Larnaca-Dekelia-Ammochosto road). The movement of vehicles and pedestrians on adjacent roads and properties will be done according to the corresponding local arrangements. In Kiti, in the province of Larnaca, on Makariou Avenue, in the period 7/5/024 – 4/6/2024, construction works of a sewage system will be carried out by a private company. During the works, the section of Makariou Avenue from its junction with Achnas Street to its junction with Piraeus Street will be closed in both directions and traffic will be diverted through adjacent streets. On normal roads in the province of Larnaca, work will be carried out to cut, collect and remove grass, as well as the collection and removal of useless objects, in the period from 4/3/2024 to 28/6/2024, excluding Sundays and holidays, from 08 :00 in the morning until 15:00 in the afternoon. During the work, the shoulder of the road will be partially closed and traffic will remain in the normal traffic lanes without the shoulder. In the greater area of Limassol and Paphos, from Monday 12/2/2024 and for a period of approximately 6 months, a private company will carry out works to replace outdated signalling equipment at 47 light-controlled intersections and 31 Pelican-type pedestrian crossings, with a new low-consumption type (Extra Low Voltage-ELV) with LED lamps, Pedestrian Countdown and touch-type demand system for pedestrians. The equipment replacement work at each point will be completed within one day, unless unforeseen and during the work the light-controlled junctions and pedestrian crossings will remain out of service unless it is deemed necessary to instal temporary traffic lights. The above contributions will be preceded by civil engineering works for the infrastructures. During the week 03/6/2024 – 09/6/2024, works will be carried out at the junctions / pedestrian crossings:
· Dimokratias / Independence Avenue – 3/6/2024 (Traffic Lights-Paphos)
· Agia Zonis Avenue – 4/6/2024 (Pedestrian Crossing-Limassol)
In the district of Limassol, on the road Limassol - Agro in the village of Gerasa, in the period 21/5/2024 - 31/7/2024, between the hours 07:00 - 15:30, work will be carried out to raise retaining walls and clean slopes. During the works, one of the two traffic lanes of the road will be closed for a length of 120m. approximately and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane, with alternating traffic management with temporary traffic lights.
In Paphos, from Monday 8/4/2024 until Tuesday 8/10/2024, roundabout construction works will be carried out at the intersection of Loforou Empas with Christou Kkelis and Dimitraki Adamou streets. During the works, traffic on Empas Avenue will be uninterrupted.
On the old Paphos-Limassol road, in the period 13/5/2024 – 12/5/2025 (for 12 months), construction work will be carried out to stabilize a part of the road, despite Petra tou Romiou (near the KOT refreshment center in Petra tou Rumi). During the works the part of the road being reconstructed will not be available to traffic. On either side of its construction site there will be continuous and uninterrupted traffic movement. Traffic on the old Paphos - Limassol road (B6) heading from Paphos to Limassol will be diverted from the Petra tou Romiou exit (after Aphrodite Hills on the left) and from Limassol / Pissouri to Paphos from the Pissouri exit on the Paphos highway – Limassol (A6).
In the Vassilikos area, from Thursday, February 22, 2024, fencing installation works are being carried out at the Vassilikos Energy Center, which will last until February, 2025.
