HOW MANY EU CITIZENS ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE IN THE 9 JUNE ELECTIONS?

Greek citizens make up the largest group of European Union nationals eligible to vote in Cyprus’ elections for the European Parliament and local government, according to official data.

For the June 9 European Parliament vote, there are 11,840 EU citizens from other member states registered on a special electoral roll in Cyprus, led by 7,147 Greeks.

Bulgarians number 2,017 and Romanians 1,963 among the EU voters from all member states except Slovenia who can cast ballots to elect Cypriot Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

At a district level, the highest number of 4,222 EU voters are registered in Paphos, followed by 3,555 in Nicosia district.

The number of EU citizens able to vote in Cyprus’ municipal elections stands at 21,640 – almost double the European Parliament tally.

Again Greeks top the list at 11,710, followed by 4,103 Bulgarians and 3,753 Romanians.

While all EU nationalities residing in Cyprus can vote in local polls, Luxembourg has just one registered voter. Croatia and Slovenia have eight and seven respectively.

Paphos district has by far the largest EU voter population for local elections at 9,275, data from the Chief Returning Officer showed. Nicosia district has 4,048 registered EU voters.
