HEATWAVE CONTINUES - ORANGE WARNING TODAY

Cyprus continues to be in a heat wave with the thermometer reaching today up to 44 degrees Celsius.

It is reminded that yesterday the Department of Meteorology issued an Orange Warning for today, valid from 11:00 am on Friday until 17:00 pm.

Weather in detail

Hot air mass temporarily affects the area. Dilute dust will be suspended in the atmosphere from time to time.

Today, the weather will generally be mostly clear but also very warm. During the midday hours and after, locally increased clouds that will develop, may give isolated rain, mainly in the mountains, but not excluding in some area of the interior. The winds will initially blow marine, weak, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become mainly southwest to northwest, weak to moderate and transient on the windward coast, moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be calm to a little turbulent. The temperature will rise around 44 degrees in the interior, around 38 degrees in the south, east and north coasts, 34 degrees on the west coast and around 32 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will continue to be mostly clear but also warm. The winds will blow mainly northwest to northeast, weak and transient to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little turbulent, but later in the west, temporarily it will be a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 27 degrees in the interior, around 25 degrees on the coast and 22 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, however, clouds that will develop during the midday hours and after, are expected to give isolated rains, without excluding the occurrence of an isolated storm, mainly in areas of the mountains and the interior.

The temperature until Monday will gradually drop noticeably, but will continue to fluctuate above the average climatic values of the season.
