Criminal prosecution for incitement to arson was brought by the Piraeus Public Prosecutor's Office against the eight adults of the group from Kazakhstan who were on board the yacht Persephone. The group that was allowed to return to Kazakhstan without even being called to give statements consists of the country's oligarchs and members of their families.
The crew members are already being prosecuted in the case and the captain and first mate were remanded in custody after their pleas.
This development comes after the revelation that the group from Kazakhstan was on the beach at the time the fire broke out and the discovery of remains of firecrackers during an enquiry that took place just yesterday on the beach of Agios Nikolaos.

The case takes on unprecedented proportions in terms of the handling that has taken place since the first hour the fire broke out. Already, the handling by both the Coast Guard and the Fire Brigade is the subject of an investigation by the Internal Affairs Service of the security forces, while the revelations raise serious questions.
