CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 19 June 2024

Police arrested a second person, a 50-year-old woman, to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of conspiracy to commit a felony, residential burglary and theft after the arrest of a 20-year-old man, while a third person is wanted for the same case.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on June 16, a 28-year-old woman from Paphos reported that between June 14 and 16, her residence in Paphos was burglarized and various alcoholic beverages as well as gold jewellery worth €3,000 were stolen. Examinations revealed that the entrance to the house was achieved through a closed but unsecured door.

On June 17, a person went to a pawnshop in Paphos and presented gold jewellery in order to sell it. The employee expressed suspicion that it may be stolen goods and the person fled, leaving the jewellery there.

Members of the Paphos Police visited the place, conducted examinations and secured testimony that he was a 20-year-old man from Paphos against whom an arrest warrant was issued. On the same day, at 4:20 p.m., he was located and arrested on a court warrant.

Further examinations revealed that another person appeared to be involved in the burglary. According to Mr. Nicolaou, yesterday members of the Pafos Crime Detection Department conducted a search at the residence of this person, while he was absent and his mother aged 50 was at home.

During the search of the residence, part of the stolen goods from the burglary were found, as well as a number of items of gold jewellery of unknown origin so far. The mother of the wanted man did not give satisfactory explanations and was arrested for both residential burglary and illegal possession of property, while her son is on the run.
