POLICE - THREATENING SCHOOL EMAIL ALSO SENT TO OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

 Filenews 20 May 2024

Emails with content similar to the one sent on Friday to schools in Cyprus have been sent to several other European countries, according to police information from Europol.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou said threatening messages had been received from various addresses, schools, shopping malls and other venues in European countries.

It is noted that the Police have contacted both Europol and Interpol to investigate the case of threatening emails and identify the sender.

Andreou reiterated that the email from which the message in question was sent was published online along with passwords, and that the wording of the threatening message was used in other messages in another language and was rendered, with poor translation, in Greek to be sent to Cyprus.

Police are now awaiting a response to their request via Interpol to determine if the sender of the email was from a specific country outside Europe. Asked if there is a specific time frame within which the police expect a response, Andreou said that this cannot be determined.
