Following the announcement of interest in taking over this year's Pafos Opera Festival, Pafos Aphrodite Festival, which manages the annual event, has been working in recent days to restore the institution to the calendar of summer events.
In anticipation of the completion of the competition and the assignment to a company, the people of Pafos Aphrodite Festival are now implementing the remaining procedural parts of the preparatory work, so that everything is ready in time for the advertising campaign to start internationally, as well as the pre-sales for the three-day opera, which is now an important artistic event internationally.
Already, both domestically and abroad, there is a strong interest from art lovers in the institution with continuous communications to the Municipality of Pafos and other organizations in the district about whether the opera will take place properly this year and regarding the procedures for purchasing tickets.
These developments now bring satisfaction to the institutions and citizens of Pafos, who in recent years expressed strong concerns about the future of the institution, after the interruption of recent years. The officials of the body, however, rejected the accusations about the abolition of the opera festival, attributing its temporary suspension to the difficulties caused by the pandemic. They assured that all necessary actions will be taken to prepare everything in time for 2024, so that the international annual institution that made Pafos famous in opera circles will return.
The top cultural event of Cyprus in the last fifteen years, has not been organized since 2019 initially due to the coronavirus and the last two years for reasons that have not been clarified, but which, according to competent factors, have to do on the one hand with the disagreements and differentiations that led to the change of the shareholder structure of the organization and the general degradation of cultural issues in the city after the period of the European Capital of Culture and on the other hand with the resignation of the officer responsible for the institution at the Pafos Municipal Hall and her departure from the Municipality.
