During the summer period, and specifically from June 1 to September 30, the Police intensifies its policing, checks, and information actions in relation to the safe driving of motorcycles and mopeds, personal mobility devices, bicycles, as well as for pedestrians, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions and increasing safety on the road network.
According to statistics from recent years, the summer period is a period of increased risk for vulnerable road users to be involved in a traffic collision.
It is noted that the Police are currently focusing their efforts on control and policing in relation to traffic violations committed by vulnerable users themselves, putting themselves at risk.
Among other things, it will be verified, as noted, whether the motorcycle or moped has been stolen, whether it bears registration plates and if it does, whether the plates comply with the relevant legislation, while where and where it is required, the procedure for the retention and movement of the motorcycle or moped will be followed.
At the same time, it will be checked whether traffic offenses are committed such as dangerous driving, not using a proper protective helmet, noisy balcony (lack of silencer), changing, modifying or adjusting the machine, violation of the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol / drugs, driving without a driving license and without running lights.
