Seventy-six million euros have been approved or will be approved very soon by the EAC Board of Directors for the installation of new electricity transmission substations, the upgrading of existing substations and the installation of transformers, in order to enhance the security of the electricity system and increase the penetration of electricity from RES into the network.

Costas Stasopoulos, EAC Deputy Transmission Manager told CNA, tenders for approximately €30 million have already been approved and yesterday other bids for €45 million were submitted to the Board of Directors for evaluation.

Mr. Stasopoulos stressed that "EAC's first priority is the stability of the system", so that it can cope, among other things, with demand and adverse weather conditions, adding that "the main thing is for the consumer to be able to receive electricity unhindered".

Another priority of the Authority, he continued, is to help the penetration of new Renewable Energy Sources (RES), which in order to be done, as he said, requires new overhead lines and underground cables, new transmission substations, new large transformers, in which RES can be united, as well as upgrading existing substations, which should now become digital.
