CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 31 May 2024

A 16-year-old minor was spotted driving a speeding vehicle in Paphos on Thursday night.

According to a representative of the Office of the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, at around 20:10 members of the "Z" team of the Pafos Traffic Police, while conducting checks on Dimokratias Avenue, intercepted a person who was driving at a speed of 92 kilometers instead of 50 kilometers, which is the permissible limit.

Further inspection revealed that he was a 16-year-old, who due to his age did not have a driver's license and insurance.

Filenews

A prison guard, the sixth in a row in recent times, was suspended today for investigating serious disciplinary misconduct.

The request for the suspension of this prison guard was submitted by the deputy director of the Central Prison, Haris Filippidis, to the National Public Health Service, following a serious incident that occurred while on duty.

According to philenews, the prison guard, while performing duty duties, allegedly abstained for some time from his watchtower in a tower of the Central Prison, while leaving his personal weapons and ammunition unattended.

The prison management was immediately informed about the incident, which considered the incident to be particularly serious, given that in addition to the fact that the watchtower was left unattended, the prison guard's equipment was also left unattended.

It is noted that lately, after the repeated searches of prisoners for the confiscation of mobile phones and drugs, illegals are trying in other ways to enter mobile phones in prisons.

It was recently found that an attempt was made to pass mobile phones to prisoners with soccer balls, which they unsuccessfully threw from the side of the buffer zone. But the balls were wedged in the prison's barbed wire. This action was noticed by a prison guard who was in a tower and alerted the patrol for investigations.

The prison management, which highly appreciates the work of the staff carried out under adverse conditions, also wants to send a message of zero tolerance regarding corruption or serious disciplinary offenses, which is why frequent availability where and where it is deemed necessary.
