A person flagged for several serious cases of poaching was reported yesterday by members of our Service after he was spotted hunting hares with a shotgun, accompanied by 4 hunting dogs in a prohibited hunting area during a closed period for hunting.

Specifically, yesterday morning around 07:10, following information that shots were heard in a specific location north of the community of Peristerona in Nicosia district, and the immediate mobilization of the members of our Service, a person was first identified who appears to have been the "forerunner" of a second person who was then found to be in a prohibited hunting area and accompanied by four hunting dogs that did not have marking numbers. It is noted that in the area where the above person was found, the training of hunting dogs is not allowed. After the second person was located, searches were carried out in the wider area and at a distance of a few meters from where the suspect person was, a hidden shotgun was found.

During the collection of evidence, the suspect grabbed the shotgun and fled to the occupied areas. The members of our Service, having failed to locate the person in question, proceeded to file a complaint with the Police, where members then issued an arrest warrant against the suspect who is being sought.

Against the above person, who in the last 20 years has been reported 11 times for serious cases of poaching, 7 different offences are being investigated.

Filenews

Underage vandals do not give up and at the first opportunity cause vandalism and damage to public school grounds. The latest incident was recorded on Wednesday night, when brainless people entered the buildings of the K 'Public Kindergarten and Primary School in Limassol, causing damage and displaying various slogans on the walls.

At the first light of day, crews of the School Board went to both schools for repairs. The offenders appear to have entered the K Public Kindergarten and after climbing on the roof, tore down plaques and threw them into the outdoor area of the playground. Despite the fact that measures and patrols have been taken on school grounds due to the Easter holidays, however, it is found that vandals find a way to act under the noses of the authorities.

Speaking to "F", the president of the Ephorate of Greek Schools of Limassol, Dinos Ellinas, pointed out that there is great concern and concern about these incidents as the offenders in most cases are minors.

According to Mr. Ellinas, security guards have been deployed for days in 24 schools in Limassol that are at high risk. These schools are guarded on a 24-hour basis in an effort to prevent vandalism. The guard will last until next week when the schools will reopen.

Asked to comment on the delinquent behaviours recorded, Mr. Ellinas noted that such acts are condemnable, stressing that everyone, parents, teachers and the Ministry of Education should reflect on the education of offenders, who are mostly minors.

"Certainly there is concern and intense as soon as we see that these individuals are ready to go out into society and spoil everything. This should trouble our society," he argued, expressing hope that with the operation of the camera system that has been piloted in three schools, the results of this effort will become apparent.
