Clear indications of the witness material in the possession of the Nicosia Crime Detection Department were given in yesterday's proceedings before the Nicosia District Court in relation to the attempted murder case of 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikou ("Dimitroui").

Yesterday, the case was registered against a total of eight persons, who received an indictment, while a court procedure followed to refer the case to the Nicosia Assize Court.

In her context, the representative of the prosecution, Antigone Michael, requested that the defendants remain under trial until July 5, when the case was set before the Assize Court. Arguing before the Nicosia District Court to demonstrate the need for the defendants to remain in custody and specifically that there is a possibility of conviction of the accused, Ms. Michael referred extensively to the witness material.

It follows from this that the prosecution witness number "41", about whom Mrs Michael spoke repeatedly in her arguments, was in a position to know the movements of the persons who carried out the criminal plan and, in fact, gave written testimony to the investigators.

According to "F's" information, she is the partner of the 5th defendant, for whom the investigation team of the ICF of Nicosia allegedly secured testimony and evidence that he was the executioner of the murderous plan, shooting three times the 34-year-old Andronikou on the Palaichori-Anthoupoli road on April 23.

In addition, based on what has been said, the case that the ICF Nicosia tried to build was enhanced by the available location data obtained from the defendants' mobile devices. These data appear to place the 5th and 7th defendants in geographical locations related to the commission of the crime.

In addition, the witness material includes testimonies from two close persons of the target of the murderous plan, 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikos. In today's proceedings, part of the testimony of the 7th defendant was also presented, who appeared to burden the position of one of the accused.

More generally, as we wrote in previous reports, the 1st defendant appears to have exchanged threats with the 34-year-old against the background of the leadership of a gang in Nicosia, to give instructions through another defendant to commit the crime, to congratulate the alleged executioner by giving him, through another person, €10,000 and ordering him €1,500 per month for life. According to the indictment and the testimonies presented in court proceedings, all allegedly played their part in the implementation of the plan and the disappearance of any evidence, some to a lesser extent, others to a greater extent. At the same time, for the 5th and 7th defendants, the ICF believes that they are the two persons who were on the scooter-type motorcycle, with which they approached the 34-year-old at noon on April 23, before the former fired at the victim three times.

The indictment includes a total of 12 charges against the eight suspects, the most serious being conspiracy to murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a felony. The other offences include possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of explosives, theft, unlawful possession of property (3rd defendant), assault on a law enforcement officer in the normal performance of his duty (defendant '6'), possession of a controlled drug class B', i.e. 16 grams. cannabis (4th defendant).

The witness list includes a total of 125 persons.

Summary of the suspects and the number of charges against them:

  1. 46-year-old Greek Cypriot I.I. – 9 charges.
  2. 39-year-old of Arab origin H. H. – 9 charges.
  3. 31-year-old Arab O.S. – 10 charges.
  4. 28-year-old Arab M.K. – 10 charges.
  5. 26-year-old Arab M.K. (alleged executioner) – 9 charges.
  6. 43-year-old Arab A.A. (serving sentence for attempted murder) – 10 charges.
  7. 40-year-old Arab G.A. – 9 charges.
  8. 28-year-old of Arab origin A. H. – 1 charge (conspiracy to murder).

A verdict was reserved for the 46-year-old who faces 9 charges

Today it is clarified whether the first of the eight defendants will remain on trial until the first appearance before the Assize Court.

The 46-year-old from Nicosia has been charged with nine offences in connection with the attempted murder case against the 34-year-old. Victor Akamas, the lawyer of the said defendant, filed an objection before the Nicosia District Court and specifically to the request of the prosecution to detain his client as an undertrial until the first appearance at the Assize Court set for July 5 in the morning.

The lawyers of the remaining seven defendants reserved their right to appeal against the detention of their clients as undertrials, for the next proceedings before the Assize Court, which will be called upon to decide on this.

Mr. Akamas attempted to challenge the testimony and more specifically the arguments of the prosecution represented by Antigone Michael. The latter had argued legally to support the position that defendants should be held as undertrials.

It is noted that two of the 10 who until yesterday were detained for this criminal act, were released. The suspect, whose home contained a cardboard box believed to contain 9mm bullets, and a 28-year-old man of Romanian origin were not charged in the case. The latter was suspected of stealing the two scooter-type motorcycles, which, according to the ICF of Nicosia, had been used by the perpetrators to carry out an assassination plan.

Lawyers Victor Akamas, Agathoklis Korelis, Andreas Andreou, Andreas Tsentidis, Nikos Koromias and Chloe Constantinou appeared on behalf of the defendants.

The prosecution's spokeswoman, Antigone Michael (appeared with Sotiroulla Michael), referred to previous convictions of defendants 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8, calling on the latter to confirm them. The 43-year-old 6th defendant asked his lawyer for clarification, stating at one point that he did not understand what conviction he was referring to.

Update - Those accused of the attempted murder of 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikos will remain in custody until July 5, when the first appearance before the Assize Court will take place.

A short while ago, the Nicosia District Court announced its decision following the prosecution's request to detain the eight defendants as undertrials. We remind you that only the first defendant, the 46-year-old, had submitted an objection through his lawyer Victor Akamas.

In his ruling, the judge referred to the risk of absconding, the seriousness of the offences and the possibility of influencing witnesses.
