A British permanent resident of Pafos who had gone swimming in the afternoon at Lara beach spotted a human limb.

It is a foot from ankle height, wearing a shoe. The British man placed the foot in a bag and handed it over to the Pegeia Police Station. 


Police are conducting sea and land searches in the Lara area

The citizen indicated the exact location of the human limb while today forensic experts and anthropologist are expected in the area. Since the morning, investigations have also begun with the participation of the port police from sea and land to locate other evidence that will help the authorities identify the victim.

Pafos Police arrested a 44-year-old man to facilitate investigations into an ongoing theft case.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on Saturday a woman reported to the Kouklia police station that on May 15 she lost her wallet worth €1,000 in a supermarket in the area of Mandria, which contained US dollars, €1,500, 400 pounds sterling, 800 Hong Kong dollars and various other documents.

An examination conducted by the Police secured testimony against a 44-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus, against whom an arrest warrant was issued and who was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

According to Mr. Nicolaou, during the search of the 44-year-old's residence, part of the stolen property was found.

Quantities of drugs and explosives were found and seized today by the Police, whose members proceeded to arrest a 20-year-old man, to facilitate interrogations.

Specifically, after evaluating information, members of the YKAN conducted a search in the morning at the apartment of a 20-year-old man in Limassol. During the search, a nylon package containing a quantity of cannabis, with a gross weight of approximately 37 grams, a nylon package, containing cocaine, with a gross weight of approximately 16 grams, two paper cylindrical firecrackers, two improvised, incendiary, explosive objects and a bottle of flammable material were found and seized.

Also, during a search of the 20-year-old's motorcycle, one package of cocaine, with a gross weight of approximately six grams, three packages, containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of 49 grams and a precision scale, were located and seized.

The 20-year-old was initially arrested for a flagrant offence, and then a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was re-arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The circumstances of the injury of a 30-year-old woman, who allegedly fell from a first-floor balcony of a building in Nicosia, are being investigated by the Police. As part of the investigation, a 44-year-old man was arrested to facilitate interrogations.

At around 10.30pm yesterday, a message was received to the Police that a 30-year-old woman was found injured on a street in Nicosia after falling from the balcony of her apartment. Members of the Police went to the scene for on-site examinations, while the 30-year-old was taken to Nicosia General Hospital. He was found to have several fractures and was detained for hospitalization.

Asked about the incident, the 30-year-old reportedly verbally reported that she was hit by her 44-year-old husband and in her attempt to escape, she fell from the balcony.

A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 44-year-old, under which he was arrested to facilitate interrogations. Among other things, the offences of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and assault are being investigated against him.

Today the 44-year-old was brought before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

The Paphos Police proceeded to arrest a 19-year-old man to facilitate investigations for an investigated case of illegal possession of narcotics, as well as for dangerous and reckless driving, for excessive speed and failure to stop at a police signal.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou on Saturday, at 18:50, members of Team Z of the Paphos Traffic Police were conducting speed checks in the Tombs of the Kings area when they signaled a vehicle driver to stop as he had exceeded the speed limit.

He added that instead of stopping, the driver sped up in order to escape, was pursued, allegedly drove recklessly and dangerously and finally stopped on Chlorakas Avenue.  

Mr. Nikolaou stated that it was found that the vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old man, who was arrested and during the search conducted in his car, a purse containing approximately 25 grams of cannabis and a sum of €2,360 was allegedly found. He also tested positive for drugs.

The 19-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.
