The past of the 43-year-old Iranian man who lived in old Nicosia in possession of a loaded pistol is already of concern to the Cyprus Police, while the case is being examined by other services of the Republic.
A philenews source, although pointing out that it is always good to avoid paraphilia without the appropriate evidence, said that in such cases the involvement of departments and services of the Republic that have as their object the security sector is taken for granted.
However, according to the investigative work so far, the Iranian arrested has been in Cyprus for 18 years. It is noted that, as first reported by philenews, the suspect was arrested at noon on Saturday for flagrant offenses at noon. He was then brought before the Nicosia District Court on Sunday and an eight-day detention order was issued against him.
The Nicosia Crime Detection Department investigates offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession and transport of a Class B firearm, illegal possession and transport of explosives (see pistol cartridges), assault on a police officer, resisting lawful arrest, illegal possession of property (amount of money) and money laundering.
As we had mentioned in our publication, the case arose after a police investigation involving members of the Aliens and Immigration Service and the Central Police Station. These members of the Force went around noon to an abandoned premises in the area of Taktakkala to investigate information about the stay of irregular migrants.
The person who was at the premises, the 43-year-old arrested, opened the door, but as soon as he noticed that there was a uniformed police officer at the scene he reacted by trying to escape. The members of the Conspiracy intervened and arrested him, finding that he was in possession of a loaded pistol, ready for use.
Later on Saturday, the Police officially informed that from the examinations that followed at the scene, by members of the ICF of Nicosia, as well as by members of the Criminal Investigation Service – YPE, of the Police Headquarters, it was found that the pistol in the possession of the 43-year-old had a bullet in the chamber and a number of cartridges in the cartridge case.
According to the official information, in a search of the premises, another 7 full cartridges and a sum of money amounting to €5,500 were found. The origin of the money is being investigated, with the suspect saying it was income from his work at a restaurant.

In the context of investigating a case concerning the offences of illegal possession of drugs, possession of drugs for the purpose of supply, money laundering, traffic offences, etc., the Police proceeded today to the arrest of one person. This is a 25-year-old man who was detained to facilitate interrogations.
The above person's car was found shortly after midnight parked in an area of Limassol and was considered suspicious. Members of the Police approached the car for control purposes, with the driver of the vehicle developing speed and committing a series of traffic offenses tried to escape.
At some point, the driver of the vehicle, while it was moving, exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot. The vehicle continued its course, resulting in a collision in a parked car where it was immobilized, while the driver was arrested by members of the Police for flagrant offenses.
In a subsequent search, inside the car, a piece of a bag was found, which contained a quantity of cannabis weighing about 3.5 grams, as well as another piece of a bag, which contained 18 smaller packages containing a quantity of cocaine, weighing a total of approximately 11 grams.
The 25-year-old driver tested positively and was also found to be driving without a driver's license and safety certificate.

As part of an investigation into a car arson case, police yesterday proceeded on the basis of a court warrant to arrest one person.
This is a 66-year-old man, who is expected to be brought before the Nicosia District Court today for a detention order.
The case concerns a fire that broke out on 10/5/2024 in a car (completely destroyed), which was parked in an open area in a village in the Nicosia district.

The first cases concerning false declarations of residence for the purposes of registration in the electoral rolls for the upcoming local government elections have reached the Police.
Deputy Chief of Police Dimitris told the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs Demetriou two letters were received from the District Officer recently, while today 34 such cases came before them and instructions were given for immediate investigation into the possibility of a criminal offence.
The Committee examined on Monday ex officio the phenomenon of possible irregularities in registrations in the electoral rolls, following the registration of the issue by DIKO MPs Chrysis Pantelides and Panicos Leonidou. Mr. Pantelides asked to be informed about the extent of the phenomenon and the possibilities of preventing and avoiding this phenomenon in the future. In addition, Mr. Leonidou raised the issue of control by the authorities and the responsibility of the competent authorities and the police.
During the discussion, the Head of the Election Service, Menelaos Vassiliou, said that 20,890 applications for the transfer of voting rights due to a change of address and 3,560 objections were submitted during the time the electoral list was posted. Of these objections, 41% were accepted and 58% rejected. In 1,461 cases there was a decision that applications for relocation were irregular.
Vassiliou also said that there is no automated system for checking applications and that there was a lot of pressure, especially in recent days when applications were submitted en masse. The Police proceeded to the arrest of a person, in the context of investigating the offences of forgery, circulation of a false document, impersonation, assault on a police officer, resistance to lawful arrest, stabbing, etc. He is a 39-year-old man who was detained to facilitate interrogations.
According to the Police, the arrest of the 39-year-old came after members of the Limassol Force checked suspicious persons, who were yesterday afternoon in an open area in an area of Limassol.
The 39-year-old initially presented the members of the Police with an identity card with an identity card other than his real name, while during the check of his data, he pushed a member of the Police and tried to escape, resulting in his arrest for flagrant offenses.
A body search of the 39-year-old found a knife in his possession, as well as two credit cards, with his real details.
Subsequently, he was re-arrested for the offenses of impersonation, forgery, circulation of a false document and stabbing.
Following further examinations, it was found that the 39-year-old's details have been on the list of prohibited immigrants since 2016, while three judicial arrest warrants were also found against him for cases of burglary of a residence, etc., (2017), conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery, etc., (2017) and assault against a police officer, etc., (2017).
Also, in a check made on a second person who was in the same area, it was found that two fine warrants were pending against him, resulting in his arrest. Then, after arranging their payment, he was released.
