The President of the Republic,
Mr Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Lebanon on Monday for a meeting with
the country's leadership in relation to the migration issue, as he mentioned
himself this afternoon.
In statements to the Press at
Tochni, asked about the content of the proposals of the United Nations (UN)
Secretary General (SG), the President said: "A specific proposal was
made to me by the UN Secretary General, others were present at the meeting,
we were not alone. I responded positively. Hopefully, tomorrow positive
developments will take place.
We have the support of the
Greek Government in this effort. The Foreign Minister (of Greece) is in
Brussels, at the NATO Summit, so let us wait and see. Hopefully, positive
developments will take place and certainly what needs to be done will be
done."
Asked to specify on relation to
the support we expect from the Commission on migration, the President of the
Republic said: "On Sunday I will meet with the President of the European
Commission. We are in contact at a technical level.
On Monday I will travel to
Lebanon with the Ministers of Interior, Foreign Affairs, the Chief of the
National Guard and other state officials. I have spoken again with the Prime
Minister of Lebanon.
We are indeed facing a
difficult situation, a crisis, but I want to assure you that we will do
everything possible. By saying everything possible, I am not excluding
anything, so that we can deal with this situation also. And rest assured we
will deal with it."
