A well-planned scheme against the Metropolis of Limassol was allegedly set up by a man in Larnaka, who dressed as a priest and driving a van with a woman with blond hair as a passenger, selling sweets and delicacies, for the alleged construction of a special school in Kalo Chorio, Limassol.

The complaint reached philenews' offices from citizens who suspected something was wrong. As we were told, the man in question, dressed as a priest and pretending to belong to the Holy Metropolis of Limassol, sells various sweets for the needs of building a school for children with special needs in the community of Kalo Chorio in Limassol. Citizens wondered what a priest from Limassol was looking for in districts of Larnaka, which aroused their suspicions.

In fact, as the complainants claimed, the man in question dressed as a priest goes from neighbourhood to neighbourhood, inviting citizens to buy sweets, since as he tells them, it is a good cause.

philenews contacted the Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Limassol, Archimandrite Isaac, who confirmed to us what citizens are reporting on our website, pointing out that just today a similar complaint was received at the offices of the Metropolis.

Archimandrite Isaac clarified that the Metropolis of Limassol does not conduct a fundraiser nor has it given approval for the sale of food or other objects for the construction of a school in Kalo Chorio, Limassol. He also pointed out that none of the priests of the church of the Metropolis of Limassol takes such actions, stressing that it may be a fraud.

"The man in question has nothing to do with our Metropolis nor with the Orthodox Church. It seems that this man dresses up as a priest in order to deceive believers and citizens," Archimandrite Isaac said, urging people to be extra careful.

He also stressed that for any sales or actions to help people or for any other good cause, a relevant license must be obtained from the Holy Metropolis of Limassol.

Our website also contacted the president of the community of Kalo Chorio of Limassol, Mr. Panagiotis Christou, who made it clear that no special school is being built in his community nor is there any other similar development in the area.
