An incident with injuries and intentional material damage was caused late in the afternoon in the parking lot of the holy church of Agios Charalambos Embas.

A young man complained to police that he was unnecessarily attacked by a middle-aged man who was recently released from prison. According to the young man's complaint, the person who attacked him persistently followed him in his car through the streets of the community.

At some point they met in the courtyard of the chapel of Agios Charalambos where it seems that there was a fight while the young man reported that the alleged perpetrator deliberately took charge with his car, hitting his own.

The young man went to Paphos hospital for examinations while the alleged perpetrator also complained that he was beaten by the young man and his friends.

A 42-year-old woman was handcuffed yesterday by the Paphos Police for investigated cases involving car theft, possession and use of a controlled class B drug, namely cannabis and driving under the influence of drugs.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on Sunday afternoon, a 42-year-old woman from a village in the Paphos District reported to the police that her vehicle, which was parked outside her mother's house leaving the keys on it, was stolen.

Immediately, Nicolaou said, the police were mobilized and patrols were sent to the area, which at around 18:30 spotted the vehicle being driven by a woman on Mesogi Avenue, heading towards Paphos. The vehicle was stopped and subsequent investigations revealed that the driver was a 42-year-old woman, who comes from a village in the same area as the complainant.

In the possession of the 42-year-old, Mr. Nicolaou said, a quantity of cannabis was found and she was positive in a narcotest test that was done to her. Subsequently, the police spokesman added, the suspect was also arrested under a court warrant for the theft of the vehicle and is expected to be charged in court.

Unknown persons vandalized in broad daylight on Sunday 7/4/24 at the IX Primary School of Pafos "Koupateio" in the city centre.

They threw stones, smashed classroom windows and caused ugliness and damage to school property. In a statement, the Parents and Guardians Association of the school condemns the incident and expresses its dissatisfaction and indignation, stressing that decisions must finally be made for the safety of children.

Organized parents call on all relevant bodies – School Board, District Education Office, Ministry of Education, Police – to take immediate measures to deal with these phenomena to avoid and prevent worse situations that endanger even human lives.

Such images only cause shame and revulsion, the statement concludes.

In a coordinated operation by the Police that was carried out in the last three days, 134 traffic complaints were made in the Paphos district, most of them concerning driving at excessive speed.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou, of the 134 traffic complaints, ten related to driving under the influence of alcohol, three drivers were found to be driving under the influence of drugs, and 38 drivers were reported for exceeding the speed limit.  

The rest, said Mr. Nikolaou, concerned minor traffic violations. Complaints ranged at roughly the same levels as the previous weekend we had and the April 1st holiday with speeding topping the list with 56 offences, also three drivers driving under the influence of drugs and eight under the influence of alcohol. 

The coordinated operations of the Police will continue at a later stage, said Mr. Nikolaou.

Not once, not twice, not three, but 80 times in total the 31-year-old arrested by the police in Paphos as a suspect in the case refuelled vehicles with the foreign fuel card.

This follows the ongoing investigations by the Police after the arrest of the suspect, who is now charged with forgery, circulation of a false document, theft and obtaining money by false representations.

We remind you that the refuelling debit card, owned by a car rental company, was used without the authorization and without the knowledge of the company at four different petrol stations in Paphos, to refuel vehicles that do not belong to this company.

During the investigation of the case, testimony emerged against the 31-year-old, who was identified as the person who refuelled vehicles using the card in question.

The 31-year-old was detained and examinations continue by the Paphos ICF.
