Paphos Police made five complaints against owners of leisure centres on Saturday night in Paphos.

According to the Police, five owners of leisure centres in the tourist area of Kato Paphos were allegedly operating without holding an operating license, a license to sell alcoholic beverages and a license to broadcast music.

The coordinated operations of the Pafos Police will continue at a later stage, while last weekend another twelve leisure centres in Paphos were reported.

A foreigner who was found to be staying illegally on the territory of the republic was arrested last night by members of the Pafos police headquarters.

His vehicle was stopped for inspection in an area of the Mouttalos district. A small quantity of drugs was also found in the possession of the alien arrested for deportation. A second foreigner, whose vehicle was also stopped for inspection, was arrested for stabbing, after a knife of a prohibited type was found in the car.

A 29-year-old Greek Cypriot man from a village in Paphos was arrested by police following a complaint by a fellow villager.

The villager of the same age arrested complained to the police that the person who reported made threats against him after a confrontation they had over personal differences.

The Police in Paphos proceeded with the arrest of a 46-year-old man in order to facilitate investigations for an investigated case of theft.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, on April 13th a 29-year-old resident of Chlorakas reported that on the same day around 11:00 an unknown person passing by in his vehicle stopped and removed an aluminum door from the yard of his residence.

After police examinations on Sunday afternoon, a 46-year-old man was arrested as a suspect in the case, who was taken into custody.  The investigations into the case are continuing by the Police.

The Police in Paphos made a third arrest in order to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of arson of two cars owned by a couple in Tsada.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, a 23-year-old man was also arrested for the case, while in the previous days two other persons aged 26 and 23 were arrested.

The fire broke out on the evening of March 28 in two vehicles owned by a couple, which were parked outside his residence.

Members of the Fire Service extinguished the fire before it spread to adjacent premises. Both vehicles were completely destroyed by the fire.

The 23-year-old was brought to the Paphos District Court on Sunday and an eight-day detention order was issued against him.

A three-day detention order was issued by the Paphos District Court against a 33-year-old man to facilitate investigations for an investigated case of forgery, impersonation and circulation of a forged document.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, on April 13 at around 2:15 p.m., a man of African origin presented himself in the departures area of ​​Paphos airport presenting a Spanish ID, which was found to be a forged document with false information.  When questioned, the 33-year-old said that he comes from the Congo and is an applicant for political asylum. He was arrested for the offenses of impersonation, forgery and circulation of a forged document.

One hundred and thirty-seven drivers were reported in the last three days in the province of Paphos as part of a coordinated operation to prevent road collisions, with most involving exceeding the speed limit, according to Paphos Assistant Police Operations Director Michalis Nikolaou.

In his statements to the KYPE, Mr. Nikolaou stated that out of the 137 complaints, 19 concern driving under the influence of alcohol and 44 complaints concern exceeding the speed limit, while the rest concern minor traffic violations.

Also during the three days checks were carried out at leisure centers, as part of an operation to combat noise pollution and a total of 17 centers were reported for violations of legislation. The coordinated operations of the Police will continue at a later stage, Mr. Nikolaou concluded.

A fine of €2,000 was imposed on a man who pleaded guilty to offences related to bird trapping since January in the Dasaki area of Achna.

During a joint operation in the early hours of last week by the Bases Police and members of the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS), the man was arrested in possession of eight freshly-killed chewing gum, two nets and an active bird imitation device. During the operation, members of the CABS team reported hearing a mimicking device coming from a semi-fenced orchard."

As soon as the man noticed the Bases Police approaching the area, "he tried to flee, but was arrested and admitted to bird trapping offences," it added.

Dhekelia Assistant Police Commissioner Panicos Panayi, "who oversees the Community Action Task Force (CAT) responsible for anti-bird trapping operations, said heavy fines for would-be trappers are set to continue."

"There has been much discussion about reducing fines for bird trapping offences, but we remain committed to ensuring that those caught carrying out this illegal activity are brought to justice and face heavy penalties." "The latest successful prosecution shows our commitment to ensuring that fines remain high and act as a deterrent to those arrested," he said.

"Our close working relationships with CABS and other organisations such as Bird Life Cyprus show our commitment to this issue and there will be no abandonment in these joint ventures".

Last month, officials revealed that over the course of next year, police are confident they will secure additional funding to add new technology to combat bird trapping, including better surveillance equipment, with upgraded drones and cameras.

"Since the introduction of the Police's bird trapping action plan in 2016, this illegal activity has almost decreased by 100% within the British Bases."

Testimonies from CCTV are being sought by Famagusta Police in an attempt to trace the movements of the perpetrator who fired shots at the home of a 36-year-old man in Frenaros at dawn on Monday (15/4).

The shots were fired shortly before 2 a.m. from a gun. According to police, the gunman fired four shots, three of which hit the façade of the house and one the glass balcony door.

The scene was cordoned off and investigations were carried out by experts of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Police Headquarters, while the head of the Famagusta ICF was also on the spot.

Various documents were received from the scene and will be sent for scientific examinations. The 36-year-old, who has not been involved with police before, said he did not suspect anyone and had no differences with anyone.

Arson is due to the fire that broke out last night in the vehicle of a 32-year-old from Limassol.

According to police, the fire broke out at 8:45 p.m. in a vehicle belonging to a 32-year-old man. The car was parked in an open area outside 4th Urban Street.

The car was engulfed in flames, while the fire completely destroyed it. On-site examinations revealed that the fire was set maliciously with the use of flammable material.

A high-power explosive device is behind the bomb explosion at a well-known hotel in the tourist area of Pyla.

The explosion was noticed shortly after 02:00 in the morning by the two night watchmen of the hotel under renovation, which was due to open next month.

The explosion caused damage to the entrance and reception area of the hotel. The scene has been cordoned off and police pyrotechnics are on the scene collecting evidence that will be sent for scientific examinations.

Larnaka Police will take statements from the hotel owners in an effort to clarify the motives of the perpetrators.

Members of the Police (Traffic Headquarters Department), while on motorized patrol yesterday afternoon, stopped a car driven by a 26-year-old man for inspection on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway.

In a search of the luggage compartment of the vehicle, two car engines were found, for which the 26-year-old was unable to give sufficient explanations for their origin, resulting in his arrest for a flagrant offence.

From further examinations that followed, it was found that the two machines had been stolen from an open area located in a village in the Nicosia district.

Today, the 26-year-old is expected to be brought before the Nicosia District Court for immediate registration of the case.
