COASTAL WALK - HARBOUR TO CHLORAKAS
The project extends from the Port of Kato Paphos to the borders of Paphos - Chloraka, has a budget of €6,200,000 plus VAT, construction costs now €30,000 plus VAT for the payment of the project quantity engineer, the sole external partner, after the study of the project was completed from the Technical Services Department of the Municipality of Pafos. The project was co-financed by the European Sea and Fisheries Fund under the 2014-2020 programming period and the Republic of Cyprus.
The project has a total length of 6.85 kilometers, of which 4.250 kilometers are the main route and 2.6 kilometers secondary routes. The project covers a total surface of about 47,000 m2. The main components of the proposed layout are a central pedestrian street of at least four meters wide with continuous sea views, on which a network of points of interest is developed (squares, seating areas, viewing points, etc.). The pedestrian street is enriched with vegetation, a lighting network and urban equipment. Along the traffic, "viewing windows" have been created, with parking areas and shades. The pedestrian street has sufficient entry points that will directly connect it to the city's urban network, and efforts have been made to enrich the entrances with parking spaces. All of these make up a comprehensive urban regeneration proposal that will dramatically enrich the public space of the Municipality.
The project passes through highly sensitive areas, both from an environmental point of view, since a large part of the area is a protected landscape integrated into the NATURA 2000 network, as well as historical since the traditional port of Kato Paphos and the Medieval Castle has its starting point, it crosses the archaeological site of Kato Pafos and the archaeological area the Tombs of the Kings, areas of unique historical and archaeological value both for Paphos and for our homeland in general.
The main purpose of the project is to improve the accessibility of the coastal front of the Municipality of Paphos, while the ultimate goal is the network of the Municipality's pedestrian paths and the comfortable and safe service of pedestrians and other sensitive groups (e.g. x HANDICAP) trafficked to and from the port of Kato Paphos.
