“We continue to work together
with Ms Holguín to achieve the aim of resuming the talks,” said the President
of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, today. In his statements to
journalists, upon arrival at the facilites of the LNG terminal in Vasilikos,
when asked about his meeting with the personal envoy of the United Nations
(UN) Secretary-General on Cyprus, Ms María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, earlier
today at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic responded, “I
had a very good meeting and review of this week that Ms Holguín was here. We
continue to work together with one single objective, the resumption of the
talks. I hope – certainly from our part this will is manifested – that we
will achieve this aim step by step. Ms Holguín will return, but she will
first visit some European capitals. We will achieve this objective step by
step.” When asked, he mentioned that
he did not wish to pre-empt or speak publicly about the results of Ms
Holguín’s effort. “It is neither appropriate nor will we move forward on the
Cyprus problem through communicative statements,” stated the President of the
Republic. “We are interested in the
substance, and Ms Holguín is working towards the substance, which is the
resumption of the talks,” he added. (GS/NG) |
