With its participation in the European project U-Mar, which aims to enhance underwater archaeology, Pafos now emphasizes a field combining archaeology and tourism, in which it had not previously developed much activity.
This design is an important development since the promotion of Cypriot underwater archaeology is at a very early stage, but with a fairly wide scope for action. It is estimated that the opportunity will be given for training in the subject, international best practices are expected to be studied and the examination of possibilities for the promotion and stimulation of underwater archaeological sites for a more responsible and sustainable way.
Tourist operators in the province hope that in the coming years maritime archaeology can be another important element in differentiating Pafos as a tourist destination. There are various sites of underwater archaeological interest in the province that can be explored, developed and further promoted, they point out.
