PAFOS MUNICIPALITY - TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS DUE TO REDEVELOPMENT WORKS IN THE CENTRE AND ANAVARGOS

Filenews 28 March 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

The regeneration of the core of the Anavargos district of Pafos, as well as the parallel regeneration of the southern area of the traditional city centre, aims to enrich and upgrade the operational infrastructure of the affected areas and to provide a better level of services to residents and visitors.

An announcement by the Pafos Municipality on the ongoing project emphasizes that both within the traditional core of the Anavargos district and within the southern area of the traditional commercial centre of Pafos, there are significant problems in the smooth circulation of vehicles, due to the narrowness of the roads.

In order to improve traffic conditions, traffic policies have been implemented that give priority to the comfortable and unhindered movement of pedestrians, oblige wheeled vehicles to move at a maximum permissible speed of 20 kilometers per hour and strictly prohibit the stopping and parking of vehicles along the road, characterizing them as Shared Use Zones.

The modern approach and implementation of a Shared Use Zone in urban planning aims to reduce the use and dominance of vehicles on the road network, increase safety levels for the vulnerable and facilitate movement by environmentally friendly means, creating conditions of sustainable mobility, points out the Municipality of Pafos.

The project is implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme "THALEIA 2021-2027" with EU co-financing.
