Cyprus Police
In the ranks of the Police, there are 40 police officers who, by virtue of their position, are constantly close to the citizens and their everyday problems. Those, whose daily mission is to talk with citizens and various social groups and institutions. They, who are the spearhead of the Police, for the development of relations of cooperation and trust with civil society. These 40 police officers are none other than the Neighbourhood Police Officers.
The institution of the "Neighbourhood Policeman" is a successful crime prevention institution, applied in Cyprus since 2003. It is one of the institutions that make up the grid of "Community Policing", along with "Cycling Policing", "Police for Animals" and "Neighbourhood Observer".
The goal of the Neighbourhood Police Officer is to maintain safety in society, through the cultivation of two-way communication with citizens and the development of a relationship of mutual cooperation and trust between the Police and citizens.
The Neighbourhood Police Officers, faithful to the function they were assigned to serve, carry out their mission daily with consistency and only on the basis and common component, the protection of society as a whole. They are daily next to citizens, organized social groups, municipalities, communities, but also minorities, either through informative lectures or through personal contact offering voluntary help.
Frequent and close communication with young people is a priority for members of Community Policing. Through visits to schools, lectures and experiential workshops, on issues related to, among others, road safety, protection from online dangers, racism, bullying and much more, the Neighbourhood Police seek to develop a relationship of mutual trust with children and young people but also to protect them from any dangers. lurking in everyday life.
This is, in short, the Neighbourhood Policeman. The man next door. Our own friend. The one who is committed to be next to the citizens, to protect them, to inform them and to share with them problems of their daily lives.
Among other things, the Neighbourhood Police Officers are responsible for:
- Patrol coverage of neighbourhoods in their area of responsibility, following a specific route.
