TRACTOR PROTEST AT KONIA ROUNDABOUT - 8 FEBRUARY

 Pafos Live 7 February 2024

Paphos farmers will gather at the Konia roundabout at ten o'clock tomorrow, at the same time as the rest of their colleagues gather outside the House of Europe in Nicosia. Farmers will distribute fruit, mainly bananas and oranges, to passing drivers.

Farmers with tractors are once again complaining about what they say are the EU's misguided policies on the common agricultural policy. The farmers' organizations PEK – EKA – Panagrotikos – New Agricultural Movement – and Euroagrotikos the march in Nicosia will be stationed at the House of Europe where a resolution addressed to the European Commission will be served, while in Paphos there will be a rally at the Konia roundabout.

Farmers are urging consumers to walk with them "because it is a matter for all consumers and every household".

It is added that "the situation has got out of hand, production costs are out of reality, green taxation is imposed on water, land, animals, trees, plants, seeds and generally throughout the food chain."

It also states that "freight rates and export costs in general are rising, at the same time that imports from Ukraine and other third countries are uncontrolled."

At the same time, the EU is proceeding with a trade agreement with Latin American countries to import agricultural products that do not meet European quality standards, promoting unfair competition itself.
