LIMASSOL CARNIVAL 2024 - 7-17 March

All indications are that this year we will have the most impressive carnival of all time, Limassol Mayor Nikos Nicolaides said on Monday evening at the presentation of the program of the 11-day events of the Limassol Carnival, which begin on Tsiknopempti and end on March 17.

The presentation of the program took place in a festive atmosphere, with songs by the choir "Ariones" and dancing by the attending Kings and Queens of past years as well as members of the municipal council, officials of the Municipality and guests.

As Mr. Nicolaides said, "after the impressive return to last year's carnival, after two years of the pandemic, the Limassol Carnival continues to make history" and added that "this year, for yet another year, we will have the most impressive carnival of all time, since this is what all indications show".

"Limassol, for 11 days, from 7 March to 17 March, wears its festive clothes, wears its carnival clothes, becomes the capital of the carnival and invites everyone to come to Limassol, to feel like Limassolians for a while, to have fun, to have a good time, to spend magical moments, which only the Limassol Carnival knows how to offer".

The Mayor of Limassol thanked the sponsors and the King of Carnival 2023, Dimitris Giannakou, who will hand over his crown, on Tsiknopempti, to the new Queen Christiana Charalambous, who will bear the title "the Queen of Limassol, the jewel of the Mediterranean".

For her part, Christiana Charalambous expressed her great joy and honour to be unanimously chosen by the Mayor, the municipal council and the cultural services of the Municipality. She expressed her certainty that "we will have an unforgettable carnival" and invited everyone to come and have fun in Limassol.

The official events may start on Tsiknopempti, but the Limassol Municipality will enter the carnival atmosphere from Wednesday, March 6 (19:30), at the "Theomaria" art gallery with the established 17th carnival mask exhibition with the theme "Carnival is color! Color in life! Color in art!" by Vera Efthymiou Parlalidou.

On Thursday, the Carnival party starts at 11:00, with music and treats in front of the Hellenic Bank (Gladstonos Street) and the Bank of Cyprus (Agiou Andreou Street opposite Ayia Napa Church), while at 18:00 the opening of a painting exhibition of the Union of Self-Taught Painters on "Carnival 2024" will take place at the Municipal Hall.

At the same time, at Grigoris Afxentiou Square (Government House) the fun will begin to warm up the coronation ceremony of the new Queen of the Carnival, who will enter the city with her chariot and escort at 19:30. A carnival party will follow with singing and dancing by the well-known Greek singer Paschalis.

On Friday, March 8, at 19:00, the serenaders' evening will take place at the square of the medieval castle, while a serenading event will also be organized on Saturday, March 9, at 18:00, outside the Municipal University Library.

On Saturday, from 10:30, the train of the Municipality will run in the city center, starting from the Hellenic Bank on Gladstonos Street, while at 15:00,the members of the Limassol Cycling Club will cycle in a carnival mood in the city.

The children will be honoured on Sunday, March 10, as the Children's Carnival Parade will take place along the coastal road (11:30). On the same day, at 18:30, the Giorgalletou Serenaders will sing outside "Perama", while the Lanitis Carob Club will be decorated with carnival to welcome, at the same time, a cartoon exhibition and at 20:30 the Greek singer Bessy Argyraki with a five-member ensemble.

With carnival mood and on Monday, March 11, the Carob Mill will host Doros Demosthenous, Neoklis Neofytidis and a six-member band, in the musical performance "Let me entertain you".

The night parade of the "pellomaska" will take place on Tuesday, March 12, starting at 20:00 from Ankara Street, followed by "Tuesday's dance", at the Medieval Castle Square, with music, dancing and a "pellomaska" and "smart mask" competition.

On Wednesday, March 13, at 20:30, the Limassol Men's Tetraphony will sing at Lanitis Carob Mill, while on Thursday, March 14, at 20:00, the evening carnival podarati will take place, starting at Grigoris Afxentiou Square and ending at the Medieval Castle Square. At 20:30, in the square of the Medieval Castle, the "Thursday dance" will take place with a guest band "Eurydice – Blue Duets" and a "pellomask" and "smart mask" competition.

Children's choirs will sing at the Pattichion Municipal Theatre on Friday, March 15, at 19:00, while at 20:30, "The big street party – Carnival edition vol.8", organized by radio stations in collaboration with the Limassol Municipality, will take place at CUT Square.

On Saturday, March 16, the routes in the city center will be repeated with the train of the Municipality, while at 15:00 the Old Car Club will hold a carnival route through the city. The events are transferred to Grigoris Afxentiou Square, where at 18:30 choirs will sing and at 19:00 serenaders, while at 21:00 there will be a carnival party at Lanitis Carob Mill with live music and disco mood by Andria Angeli, Anna Vilanidi, Byron Yiorkas, Sotiris Konstantis, Andreas Protopapas and Andria Souroullas.

The culmination of the Limassol Municipality's carnival events will be the great Carnival Parade, on Sunday 17 March,3pm  on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, while the events end with the farewell dance at the square of the old port, at 21:00.
