He had left his car parked for months in an open area of Paphos, so when he went to pick it up he found it... literally a shell. Hitherto unknown perpetrators dismantled it and took most of its parts, apparently to sell or reuse them.
The reason for this is a resident of Paphos who complained to the Police Department that he had parked his vehicle in a field for almost six months. When he recently went to the scene to use it again, he was surprised to see that the vehicle was missing the bonnet, bumpers, traffic lights and driver's window, among other things. The damage, as estimated by the owner of the vehicle, amounts to €4,000.
This case is not unrelated, according to competent sources, to the recent allegations that thefts and vandalism of cars in Paphos are related to the phenomenon of traffic on the roads of many old vehicles bought by foreigners.
In a statement to "F", the MP for Pafos of DIKO, Chrysanthos Savvides, points out that the many old cars in Paphos, usually driven by foreigners, have created the need for cheap spare parts.
These spare parts, however, on the one hand, are not sufficient in the market, due to the many damages that cars constantly present, and on the other hand, genuine spare parts are clearly more expensive than used ones. They therefore easily find buyers, i.e. the owners of such vehicles, who are unable to spend a lot of money on repair or maintenance. This is why they own an old car.
The Pafos MP called on the state to increase the Pafos police force in order for the Directorate to be able to respond to the many needs arising due to the increase in population from the continuous migration wave.
