Eleven kilos of cannabis, one kilogram of cocaine and a sum of money of more than €80,000 were found by members of the anti-narcotics service in a large operation carried out early last night in a rural area of Emba.

Two 29-year-old Greek Cypriots, who managed to escape after colliding with four police vehicles, are wanted in the case. According to the police, during the operation to intercept the vehicle that the two Greek Cypriots were travelling in, police fire was used on the tyres of their vehicle, in order to stop them.

In the chase that followed, they threw out of their vehicle a bag containing a kilogram of cannabis. In a subsequent search of the house of one of the two, another ten kilos of cannabis and one kilogram of cocaine were found, as well as a sum of money of €8,000, while in the house of the second, €67,000 and various banknotes in foreign currency were found in a trash can.

A mother and son were arrested yesterday at Paphos airport after they were spotted stealing perfumes and cigarettes from shops in the departure area of the airport.

The 60-year-old and her 32-year-old son, Cypriots living permanently in Britain, had come on holiday and were due to depart for London last night.

Members of the Paphos police arrested yesterday a 28-year-old Romanian, permanent resident of Paphos, for stealing a motorcycle.

In a check made during his interception by a patrol of the force, it was found that the motorcycle, of small displacement, he was riding had been stolen in the previous period.

A search of his apartment followed, where another motorcycle was found as well as various tools, which are also believed to be stolen.

Following an assessment of information received by EUROPOL, according to which a specific owner/user uploaded eight child pornography files online, the Cybercrime Unit proceeded to arrest a 27-year-old man.

The 27-year-old was arrested today under a court warrant, while a search of his home in Paphos found and received as evidence, a mobile phone, a laptop computer and two USBs.

The Cybercrime Division continues its examinations.

The Assize Court in Paphos yesterday sentenced a 55-year-old man to 12 years in prison after finding him guilty in a drug case.

The 55-year-old was arrested along with another 38-year-old woman, on 09/07/2023, where 16kg of cannabis was found and confiscated in their travel luggage upon arrival at Paphos airport.

As for the 38-year-old, the case was set for hearing in March, 2024
