WATER STARTS FLOWING INTO THE DAMS

 Pafos Live 14 January 2024

Water has been flowing non-stop at the dam of Asprokremos since last night. The rains of the last two days, combined with the fact that the land was quenched after a prolonged period of drought, led to the rushing descent of the waters of the dry river towards the second largest dam in Cyprus.

The situation in the dams is still difficult as they are only at 45% of their capacity compared to 66% in the same period last year. Since the beginning of this year's hydrological year, in October, only 5 million cubic meters of water have flowed into all the dams of Cyprus.

Only the small dam in Kalopanayiotis with a capacity of 363,000 cubic meters of water is full, while in the rest of the dams their current stored quantity does not exceed 50% of their capacity.

The wish and expectation, not only of those directly affected, is that the rains will continue filling all the dams of the island.
