Light began to appear in relation to the bridge that will connect the industrial areas of Mesogi-Tremithousa. The competent ministry has included an allocation in the new budget to complete the bridge and has also announced tenders. More than ten years have passed since the failed attempt to connect the industrial areas of Mesogi and Tremithousa with a small bridge that will connect the two areas. The two areas are separated by a stream and the connection between them today is time-consuming and problematic since a long detour needs to be made.
The project, which is considered very important, began in 2012 but stopped almost immediately after rubble and unsuitable materials were found at the foundation level during the excavation of the bridge's piers.
The history of the project begins in the previous decade. Although work began in the summer of 2012, in October 2012 the Department of Public Works had temporarily suspended construction work due to unforeseen soil conditions.
Specifically, during the excavation of the piers of the bridge, rubble and unsuitable materials were found at the foundation level, resulting in the revision and preparation of a new study of the foundation of the piers and inspection of the foundation of the piers.
Due to the fact that the project was under construction and any suspension of the project might require compensation to the contractor, the competent department covered the cost of the modification study. Subsequently, the Department of Public Works made efforts to amend the Contract and continue the project, but this was not possible due to the refusal of the contractor to continue and therefore Article 66 of the terms of the Contract providing for its termination was implemented. Finally, the issue of termination of the Contract and the contractor's claims was examined by the Departmental Committee for Changes and Claims and the Central Committee for Changes and Claims, which decided to pay the contractor compensation in the context of an amicable settlement for a full and final settlement.
At the end of 2013, meetings were held between the Ministry of Industry and the Department of Public Works, to examine, inter alia, the issue of preparing new documents for the re-announcement of tenders for the implementation of the project, but the promotion of the project was not possible due to the non-securing of appropriations in the Ministry's Budget. Now they have finally come out on tender.
