The Mayor of Paphos Phaidonas Phaidonos spoke about the new incidents in a juvenile facility, who denounced the accommodation of little girls with adults.
He initially stated that there is a lack of political will. "For a year and a half, minors have been living in an unused small hotel in the heart of tourism in Lower Paphos."
He added that there was a reaction from Paralimni for their installation in a small hotel, as a result of which they were taken to Paphos. "We were told it was for two months and it ended up being two years."
Mr. Phaidonos mentioned that the area is very sensitive. "The hotel is adjacent to homes and businesses."
He further stated that a large portion of the persons referred to as minors are adults. "It is a big lie that it is said that it is forbidden for privacy reasons to do an examination of the jaw to identify how many are adults and how many are minors."
The Mayor complained that in the structure, little girls and boys coexist with adults. "I don't want to tell you about the drug use and prostitution inside this center."
He then mentioned that there are two police officers permanently outside. "The Republic pays for additional police protection on a 24-hour basis".
He pointed out that this structure cannot continue to be a hotel, without basic infrastructure. "If something substantial is not done, not even in the next two years will there be a structure to host unaccompanied minors."
He emphasized that there is no state. "There was a worker with covid and she paralyzed the state. This delayed giving them their allowances.''
