PAPHOS MUNICIPALITY - SMART WATER METERS

 Pafos Live 26 January 2024

The Pafos Municipality is proceeding with the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of an integrated system for smart management and measurement of water resources.

According to an announcement by the Municipality, the main purpose of the project is to provide the Municipality with the necessary tools (equipment and software) to achieve the optimal use of available water resources, ensuring the quantity and quality of drinking water through the infrastructure of the water supply and distribution networks and achieving at the same time significantly lower maintenance and operation costs.

The project includes, it is added, updating the existing digital network map to include the entire external and internal network, division of the internal network into District Meter Areas – DMAs, design, development and operation of a smart and integrated water resources management system, supply, installation and operation of all required equipment.

Specifically, it concerns at least 27,000 smart water meters, control units, communication equipment, sensors, PCs, displays, etc. for the implementation of the integrated system.

Supply, installation and operation of all required Software components (e.g. Scada system, Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, etc.)

Regarding the expected benefits/results, the Pafos Municipality notes, inter alia, that real-time monitoring and data-driven information allow rapid response to leaks, waste and abnormal consumption patterns, saving water resources.

He also refers to efficient resource allocation, noting that the ability to monitor water use in great detail helps to allocate resources more efficiently and plan for future needs.

In addition to preventing leaks, minimizing losses and optimizing resource allocation, the project seeks to significantly reduce maintenance and operating costs.

The project is implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme "THALEIA 2021-2027" with EU co-financing.
