The 21-year-old man from Albania, as well as a 57-year-old Greek Cypriot, were detained for seven days by the Larnaca District Court, who were arrested on Thursday after 42kg of marijuana was found. The two are believed to be members of an international drug ring active in Cyprus and other European countries and both Interpol and Europol will be informed.

The 57-year-old was represented during the detention process by lawyer Nikola Kantara, while the young Albanian appeared without a lawyer. According to what was told in court, the YKAN had information that the 57-year-old was engaged in importing and trading large quantities of drugs using another person, who undertook the receipt and storage of drugs and then, on the instructions of the former, their delivery to the final recipients.
Police had placed under surveillance the 57-year-old, who on January 2 allegedly met the 21-year-old at a café in the Larnaca district. Thus, members of the YKAN also put under surveillance the young Albanian, who two days later was seen receiving two boxes from a courier company. Half an hour later, in an area of Larnaka, members of the YKAN stopped the 57-year-old's vehicle for inspection. During the search, a syringe containing cannabis oil was found in the suspect's purse.
The two were arrested and refuse to cooperate with police, who are examining documents and other evidence found in the suspects' possession.
