Police arrested a 38-year-old man at dawn to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of car theft and illegal possession of property.

Specifically, a few minutes after midnight, members of the Larnaka Police Directorate, who were on motorized patrol, spotted in a hotel parking lot in Larnaca, a saloon car bearing fake registration numbers. In close proximity to the said vehicle, a parked pickup truck, which had been reported to the Police, as stolen, was found on January 9, 2024.

Police examinations revealed that the saloon vehicle was used by a 38-year-old man staying at the hotel.

Members of the police found the 38-year-old inside the hotel. During a search, he was found in possession of a travel bag containing various church utensils. The 38-year-old did not give a satisfactory explanation as to how the objects in question were found in his possession, resulting in his arrest for the offence of illegal possession of property.

A search of the saloon vehicle followed, during which a short-barrelled shotgun, which had been reported to police as stolen, was found on December 23, 2023. Various tools and keys of the stolen pickup truck were also found.

The 38-year-old was detained to facilitate interrogations, while today he is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court for a detention order.

The authorities in Limassol are investigating a new case involving thefts from the EAC network.

According to the Police, at noon on Wednesday an employee of the EAC reported that in the area of ​​Agios Mamas, five stakes were found which had been cut off, while overhead cables were stolen.

Examinations revealed that EAC poles were forcibly cut while 900 meters of overhead cable was stolen.

According to the Police, the theft took place between January 15 and 17.  The case is being investigated by Lania Police Station.

Pafos Police arrested a 17-year-old man on Wednesday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of theft and illegal possession of property.

According to the Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on January 17, between the hours of 18:20-18:50, members of the Kelokedara-Kouklia police station and the Pafos ICF searched with a court warrant a residence in a village in the district, where a 17-year-old minor resides.

As part of the investigation, a scooter-type motorcycle was found, which, as it was found, was stolen from Limassol, with the case of theft being investigated by the Paphos ICF.

He also said that a moped skeleton was found, but the registration numbers and identity could not be verified.

The 17-year-old was charged in writing with illegal possession of the motorcycle and moped frame and was released late Wednesday afternoon as he is a minor.

Paphos Police are investigating the fire that broke out in the early hours of Thursday in the courtyard of a tyre shop, according to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nicolaou, adding that the fire was set maliciously.

Mr. Nicolaou said that the fire was contained after it was extinguished by the fire brigade on the tires, without causing any particular damage to the building.

He added that the scene remains cordoned off and examinations are continuing to collect more evidence.

The store in question, Mr. Nicolaou said, belongs to a 30-year-old man who is under trial in the central prison and the store is currently managed by his relatives.

It was found that the fire in the tires was set maliciously, he added.

The ICF Pafos is investigating the case.
