YELLOW WEATHER WARNING FOR STORMS TODAY - UNSETTLED REST OF THE WEEK

 Filenews 11 December 2023

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms expected to affect the area.

In particular, isolated possibly strong storms are expected to initially affect the western part of the island and gradually the rest of the island. The intensity of rain is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, while hail is not excluded.

The warning will be in effect from 09:00 in the morning until 17:00.

Detailed weather forecast:

Weak low pressure affects the area.

Today, the weather will be mostly cloudy at times and localised showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, initially in the west but gradually in the rest of the areas. Hail may also fall in a thunderstorm. The winds will initially blow northeast to southeast, weak and locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming in the afternoon mainly southwest to northwest, of the same intensity. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to 18 degrees in the interior, around 21 on the south and east coasts, around 19 on the west and north coasts and 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy. The winds will blow mainly northwest to northeast, weak and transient locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to 9 degrees in the interior, around 13 on the south and east coasts, around 12 on the west and north coasts and 3 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.

On Tuesday, locally increased clouds will be observed intermittently, which after noon are expected to give isolated showers or thunderstorms. On Wednesday, locally increased clouds may give isolated rain early in the morning, however later the weather will become mostly clear. On Thursday, the weather will be mostly clear, although locally increased clouds will be observed from time to time.

The temperature on Tuesday is not expected to change significantly, but by Thursday it will gradually rise slightly, to fluctuate slightly above average climatic values.
