WhatsApp phone scams continue as fraudsters falsely impersonate the Cyprus Police.
The Police are once again drawing public attention to telephone scams through WhatsApp, where fraudsters call unsuspecting citizens to a video call falsely pretending to communicate on behalf of the Cyprus Police.
According to the Police, the communication is in English and the criminals ask the citizens to declare their various personal and banking details. (Demonstration of ID, debit/credit cards, etc.).
The aforementioned phone calls are the product of fraud and do not come from the Police.
- The public is invited to be particularly attentive and:
- Do NOT respond to calls and instructions received from fraudsters.
- Not respond to any links sent.
- Do not reveal to others, codes that they may have received on their mobile phone.
In case bank data was declared during such a call, the public should inform their banking institution IMMEDIATELY to avoid unwanted use of their data.
