Asked if there is an increase in burglaries and thefts during this period, Constantinou replied that there is no increase, noting that there were some incidents that were immediately dealt with by the Police.
Constantinou noted that the presence of the Police these days is particularly intense and evident in shopping streets and busy places, adding that since last Friday, with the beginning of the festive season, members of the Police have been on foot conducting motorized and foot patrols to prevent offences against property, such as burglaries and thefts. but also against citizens who circulate in public places and busy shopping streets, such as theft of bags and wallets.
According to Constantinou, the Police, in addition to the increased measures it takes, advises citizens to be suspicious and take their own preventive measures to protect their property.
Among other things, he said that citizens who will be absent from their homes are asked when they are away from home, not to leave signs that betray their absence and to make sure the house is well locked and to cooperate with neighbours of their trust for the mutual surveillance of their homes.
In addition, he said, it is recommended that citizens limit to the minimum possible the storage of money and valuables in their places of residence.
Regarding shop owners, Mrs. Constantinou said that they are required to leave the cash registers of their stores open and meaningless, not to leave large amounts of money in unsafe places, not to leave their property exposed and to have taken care of the installation of alarm systems.
He also said that citizens are advised when they are in public places and busy shopping streets, when they walk, to have their money and credit cards in the front pockets of their clothes and it would be good not to have large amounts of money with them, but the absolutely necessary.
The Police, said Mrs. Constantinou, calls on the public, during these festive days, to be particularly careful, to be alert and to cooperate closely with the Police.
"In cases where he becomes aware of any information or movements of suspicious persons and/or vehicles during the day or night, immediately inform the Citizen's Communication Line at 1460 or contact the nearest police station," he noted.
