CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Press 23 December 2023

The Police, specifically the Anti-Narcotics Service - YKAN, proceeded last night to arrest a second suspect, a 42-year-old man, for dealing in a quantity of approximately two kilograms of cannabis. For the same case, a 23-year-old man was arrested last Tuesday, who is in custody.

The seizure of the amount of cannabis and the investigation of the new case of drug trafficking led to the collection of evidence and the conduct of examinations by members of the Anti-Narcotics Service, in the district of Paphos.

Specifically, on Tuesday, December 19, at around 4:00 in the afternoon, YKAN members spotted two people on a car and a motorcycle on a road in the district of Pafos, delivering a package. As soon as the two noticed the officers, they dropped the package on the ground and ran away.

The driver of the car developed speed, as a result of which his vehicle collided with a YKAN vehicle and subsequently escaped. The driver of the motorcycle, which also collided with a Police vehicle, tried to escape on foot, as a result of which he was stopped by the YKAN members, who followed him. As it was established, this is a 23-year-old man, who was arrested for an unprovoked crime. A quantity of cannabis, with a gross weight of 19 grams, was found inside his motorcycle.

The package that the two men tried to exchange was also taken from the scene, in which a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of approximately two kilograms was found.

An arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old, under which he was arrested, while on the morning of Wednesday, December 20, he was brought before the Paphos District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

At the same time, efforts were being made to locate the second suspect, aged 42, against whom a judicial arrest warrant was also issued, for the investigation of the drug trafficking case.  He was arrested shortly before 7pm on Friday night.

YKAN (Paphos District Office) is investigating the case.
