The Administrative Court ruled as lawful the detention and deportation decrees of a Syrian migrant who since 2018 has secured international protection status until 2025.
He was considered a danger to the security of the Republic as it is alleged by the Aliens and Immigration Service of the Police to be a member of a ring that smuggles irregular migrants from Syria, via Turkey, to Cyprus, either to the occupied or to the free areas.
He filed an appeal against the decision dated 31/8/2023 to declare him a prohibited immigrant and against his detention order. At the same time, he filed another appeal with the Administrative Court of International Protection against his deportation.
The Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, following the letters of the YAM, considered that the applicant is a danger to Cypriot society and the security of the Republic and declared him a prohibited immigrant.

Another serious episode of school violence took place on Tuesday afternoon at a Limassol High School, causing intense concern to the already troubled educational community, which has recently recorded dozens of incidents of delinquent behaviour and attacks.
Police arrested a 70-year-old and 21-year-old man who stormed the school in order to take the law into their own hands.
According to information from Philenews, the incident took place at 12:30 noon, when a high school student attacked a student, who pulled her hair.
The student then notified her mother about the incident and the latter informed her relatives.
The minor's 70-year-old grandfather and 21-year-old brother arrived at the school. The two entered the school without permission, in order to locate the student who attacked the minor. Then the Principal of the High School intervened to prevent the worst, with the two however attempting to attack him.
It should be noted that the Directorate informed the Police and a member of Group G arrived at the place. The tension continued and tempers became even more heightened with the arrival of the policeman with the 21-year-old attacking the member of the Force.
Then, the police arrested the student's brother while the 70-year-old grandfather tried to free his grandson, resulting in his arrest as well.
Both the 21-year-old and the 70-year-old grandfather were arrested on court warrants for the offences of assaulting a police officer, resisting lawful arrest, unlawful entry into the school premises and alarm.
The two arrested are expected to be brought before the Limassol District Court tomorrow.

As part of an investigation into a case of illegal possession of drugs, possession of drugs with intent to supply to another person and money laundering, police arrested one person early last night.
This is a 22-year-old man who was detained to facilitate interrogations.
The arrest of the 22-year-old was preceded yesterday afternoon by members of the YKAN, interception of his vehicle in an area of Limassol, for inspection.
In a subsequent search, a quantity of cannabis weighing about 72 grams, a quantity of cocaine weighing about 5 grams, a precision scale, as well as a sum of money were found inside his vehicle, resulting in the 22-year-old being arrested for a flagrant offence.
With his written consent, a search was carried out at his home, where a sum of money was located and confiscated as evidence, while a second car owned by him was searched, where a quantity of cannabis weighing 326 grams was found, as well as a precision scale.
The 22-year-old was later rearrested on a court warrant.
The YKAN (Limassol Unit) continues the examinations.

A written apology and financial compensation was made by the 54-year-old G.T. who was found guilty by the Famagusta District Court last Tuesday (12/12) for the maritime accident and serious injury of a 31-year-old expatriate from Britain, in the sea area of Konnos in Protaras, on 13/8/2017.
This development was made known in yesterday's court proceedings, in which the defense lawyer of the convicted man argued for a mitigation of his client's sentence. In particular, his lawyer referred to these factors in order to be taken into account when imposing his sentence. The written apology and financial compensation was settled by the 54-year-old as part of the civil case at the naval court and shortly after his criminal conviction last Tuesday (12/12).
In the context of the defence lawyer's speech, reference was also made to the personal circumstances of the convict, who, according to what has been said, has a clean criminal record and is a respectable businessman as the owner of two hotel units.
It should be noted that as the Senior District Judge, Marina Ierokipiotou, said yesterday, she will announce her decision on the sentence to be imposed on the 54-year-old on December 29. He also said that until then, G.T. would be detained due to the seriousness of the offences for which he was found guilty.
It should be noted that after the announcement of the 54-year-old's conviction last Tuesday, Ms Ierokipiotou had also ordered that the businessman be detained as an undertrial. The latter, however, had pleaded unwell and had been admitted to Famagusta General Hospital, where he was detained for some 24 hours in order to evaluate his condition. Of course, he himself attended yesterday's proceedings at the Famagusta District Court. The prosecution is represented by Thanasis Papanikolaou.
The accident had occurred on 13/8/2017 and resulted in the critical injury of the then 25-year-old Anglo-Cypriot, R. H. The young woman at the time of the serious accident was in an inflatable ("sea sofa"), which was being towed by a boat of a well-known water sports company. With her on the inflatable boat was her 17-year-old cousin and friend from the Netherlands, also of Cypriot origin.
At some point, the speedboat belonging to the 54-year-old convict and driven by him, was found in the path of the water sports company's boat. The propellers of his speedboat hit the then 25-year-old causing very serious injuries to her lower torso (25cm tear and finger amputation), for which she required long-term hospitalization.
The 31-year-old woman, due to the 25cm tear (from the back to the groin), had lost four liters of blood in the sea, resulting in immediate danger to her life. She has undergone multiple surgeries, without her health having been restored.
The Court last Tuesday found the defendant guilty on 15 of the 16 charges he faced, indicating, among other things, that after the accident he did not provide the required assistance to the seriously injured woman, who was 25 years old at the time (the incident was handled by the owner of the water sports company, who was a prosecution witness in the case). The most serious charge of which the 54-year-old was found guilty is that of causing grievous bodily harm under Article 231 of the Penal Code. It carries a prison sentence of up to seven years, but consent was given by the Attorney General for the proceedings to be summarily tried by the Famagusta District Court. A district court has jurisdiction to impose a prison sentence of up to five years.
