A vehicle belonging to a Syrian resident in Paphos went up in flames at dawn. From the first indications the fire seems to have been set maliciously.

The Syros' vehicle was parked outside his residence on Alexandrou Ypsilanti Street in the area of the Apostolou Pavlou district. Members of the fire brigade extinguished the fire while police have cordoned off the scene for tests during the day.

A 20-year-old Paphos fan was arrested by police after the end of last night's football match between his team and APOEL in Stelios Kyriakides.

According to police, the 20-year-old admitted to throwing fireworks in the stadium's parking lot. The case is expected to be registered in court today, while the police will also ask for an order banning the young man from entering the playing fields.

It is noted that during the match APOEL fans had detonated dozens of torches and other fireworks in the visitors' stand.

The owners of three nightclubs were denounced last night in Paphos for broadcasting music without a license.

One of the shops operates in the central square of Paphos and the other two in the tourist area of "Agios Antonios".

Members of the police proceeded to confiscate the music broadcasting equipment and a file is being formed to bring them to justice.

Police arrested two people, aged 39 and 40, yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of attempted murder committed in Famagusta district last November.

Specifically, around 10.40 p.m. Yesterday, members of YKAN located and stopped for inspection, a car in which the above persons were traveling. The 39-year-old was arrested under a court warrant pending against him, while the 40-year-old was arrested for the offence of aiding and abetting after committing a felony. The 39-year-old was taken into custody to facilitate interrogations, while the 40-year-old, after being charged in writing, was released to be summoned to court.

The attempted murder case was allegedly committed between the dates of November 21 and 22, 2023, however information about the incident was given to the Police on November 27. According to the findings of the police examinations, on the above dates, in an area near Ayia Napa Marina, shots were fired at a vehicle in which a 34-year-old and a 40-year-old man were travelling.

Police examinations also revealed testimony against the 39-year-old, who was arrested yesterday.

A war between drug trafficking factions is believed to be behind the attempted murder of a 34-year-old and a 40-year-old man in Ayia Napa, for which a 39-year-old man is being detained.

The attempted murder was committed between the dates of November 21 and 22, 2023, when shots were fired at a vehicle the two were travelling in, which was located near the Ayia Napa marina. According to philenews, one of the bullets fired penetrated the rear of the vehicle, passed next to the driver, who miraculously escaped and was pinned to the front glass.

The case was not reported to the police, who received information on November 27 and located the vehicle in which the 34-year-old and 40-year-old were traveling. The case, unknown for what reason, was kept out of the public eye for days and became known on December 3 when the details of a 39-year-old man suspected of committing the attempted murder were made public.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to police, a vehicle carrying the 39-year-old, who was arrested under a court warrant pending against him, as well as a 40-year-old man, for the offense of aiding and abetting after committing a felony was intercepted by the YKAN. The 39-year-old, who denies guilt, is being questioned by police, while the 40-year-old, after being charged in writing, was released to be summoned to court.

Famagusta Police are reportedly investigating specific reports of a clan dispute over the supply of drugs to a specific person.

As part of an investigation into theft and illegal possession of property, police arrested two people yesterday.

They are a 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, who were detained to facilitate interrogations.

The arrest of the above persons was preceded by information yesterday morning about two persons, who were moving suspiciously in an area of Nicosia and were seen stealing from cars.

Members of the Police went to the area where they found the 31-year-old getting out of a car and in possession of a bag with various items, part of which were identified by the owner of the vehicle.

The 31-year-old was arrested for the offences of theft and illegal possession of property, and was subsequently arrested, as was the 34-year-old, on a court warrant.

A 17-year-old African asylum seeker is in custody on suspicion of raping an 80-year-old woman from an EU country who was in Ayia Napa on holiday.

The case, according to philenews, was reported last Thursday, December 14, to the Famagusta Police by the elderly woman, who reported that an unknown man raped her in a remote area at 3:30 in the afternoon. She said in shock that as she returned from the sea on foot, a man began to follow her, who forcibly led her to a remote area and then raped her.

After examinations, the police proceeded to arrest a 17-year-old foreigner, who lives in a structure rented by the state in the area.

The suspect was remanded in custody for 8 days by the Famagusta Court in Paralimni.

Police arrested another minor last night to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of arson of a school building in Nicosia.  A court warrant for his arrest was pending against him, which was executed yesterday at around 10pm.

His arrest is the eighth arrest in the case, after seven other minors were arrested in recent days to facilitate interrogations and are in custody.

The fire at the school broke out around 12:45 a.m. of 16 December 2023. Members of the Police and Fire Brigade went to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The fire caused damage to a number of rooms, while further examinations also revealed damage to windows, possibly from throwing stones.

The ICF Nicosia continues the examinations.
