A "government" employee in the pseudo-state moved to the free areas and converted an apartment in Oroklini into a laboratory for the manufacture of synthetic drugs, which he supplied to users.

The reason is a 45-year-old Turkish Cypriot, who was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court. The convicted man was found guilty after a court hearing in a case of possession of drugs with intent to supply to other people.

The defendant lived in occupied Famagusta and in 2014 rented an apartment in Oroklini. However, he did not pay the rent and the owner of the apartment, in July 2016, went to it in order to change the lock on the door. When he entered the apartment, he found aluminium trays containing dry plant matter in the living room and an electronic scale in the kitchen.

He immediately alerted the Anti-Narcotics Agency, whose members received various items from the site, including 2,000 bags, gloves and masks, which were sent for scientific tests and in which the genetic material of the accused was found.

As found by the State Chemical Laboratory, there was more than one kilogram of dry plant matter in the aluminium discs, to which various synthetic drugs had been added. In February 2017, an arrest warrant was issued against the Turkish Cypriot, who remained missing and was finally located in June 2021.

Imposing the sentence on the 45-year-old, the Permanent Assize Court noted that this is a very serious case, since the defendant, while living in the occupied areas, rushed to the free areas and had organized the apartment in Oroklini in such a way as to turn it into a drug manufacturing laboratory. The convict's clean criminal record, as well as his personal circumstances, since he is the father of a minor child and his wife, who comes from Turkey, will find it difficult to visit him in prison were taken as mitigating factors.

At noon of the same day, the complainant contacted the police again, stating that his mobile phone, according to a special application, was transmitting a signal from Agiou Andreou Street.

He went to the spot where he noticed a parked car, red in colour, outside of which were two men and a woman, who then entered the vehicle and departed.

A member of the cycling police arrived at the scene, who informed the complainant that his mobile phone was now transmitting a signal in the area of the cemetery of Agios Nikolaos. The vehicle was found parked by other members of the cycling police, who proceeded to check the identity of the three persons who were at the scene.
